My, how times have changed. We hear all the time about players making big bank on player contracts, the most ever in history was this offseason with Aaron Rodgers’ $110 Million deal that could ultimately earn him over #130.5 Million. That’s a little over a cool Million per Sunday. But he’s considered one of the best in the game, so it’s worth it, right? Back in the early times of the NFL, one of the best could only dream about a million a game. So what did they get paid? How about a little less than you and I pay for something off of the Dollar Menu. This player contract from Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh, an NFL iron man who played Quarterback, Defensive back and served as the Redskins Punter from 1937-1952, shows that he was paid just one dollar a game. Photo via Twitter: @RedskinsCR How about that! And if you take the time to read the contract, you’ll even notice he didn’t get the whole dollar at a time. He got 75 cents after a game, and the remaining 25 at the end of the season. I know monetary value was a little different back then, but I miss the days when guys played for the love of the game and a payday was just a bonus. There are still a few guys that have a pigskin heart, but they’re few and far between now. A little bit of football history for your Tuesday Morning, Enjoy! • The owners would like to go back to those days.
  • Yeah, but a dollar back then is worth about $15 today. So he was really raking it in.
  • I don't think that any one plays for the love of the game. Babe Ruth was reported to have said" you 're going to pay me to play baseball?"

Aldon Smith was reportedly drinking with Ray McDonald

The San Francisco 49ers released Ray McDonald in the wake of his most recent alleged domestic assault, and he may not be the only Bay Area player that finds himself in serious hot water. Aldon Smith could be in trouble, too. According to a search warrant affidavit that was obtained by the San Jose Mercury...Read More

Johnny Manziel ruled out for Week 17 with injury

Well, this surely didn’t go as planned. During his Monday afternoon address to the local media, Browns head coach Mike...

Dwyane Wade hopes Heat fans give LeBron a warm reception

The chances of LeBron James returning to Miami without being booed are slim to none. But former teammate Dwyane Wade hopes that Heat fans will show at least some support, however brief it is.   If it were up to Wade, the Cleveland Cavaliers star would receive nothing but praise when he returns to Miami for the Cavs’ Christmas Day matchup with the Heat. But the...

JJ Watt's bloody face defines 2014 campaign

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is a legitimate MVP candidate. What he has done thus far this season is nothing short of extraordinary. As the leader of the Texans squad both on and off the field, Watt has his team in position to potentially sneak into the AFC Playoffs as the sixth seed. Through 14 games, Watt has put up 72 tackles, 17.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, five...

Dominic Raiola insists he didn't intentionally stomp opponent

Dominic Raiola hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt, but the Detroit Lions center needs it more than ever right now.   Raiola is a notoriously dirty player, and he did nothing to help his reputation when he stomped on Chicago Bears defensive lineman Ego Ferguson during the Lions’ eventual win at Soldier Field. Raiola insisted after the game that the stomp was not done...
