PLAYERS: Jeff Backus

Nike’s new uniforms did little to help the cause of perspiring offensive linemen in Week 1 of the NFL season. Above is a screenshot of Lions tackle Jeff Backus, who sweat through his pants so hard you could see his legs, cheeks, and jockstrap. I think we can officially consider that a wardrobe malfunction. And I think Nike might need to change the kind of material they’re using for their pants, though at least they were able to successfully divert attention from their other NFL uniform issue.

  • Whooo Hooo!!
  • They are disgusting!!
  • About time for some parity in the "revealing uniform" category - finally, let the women have something to look at too!
  • I'd rather look at a nice female behind and thigh than a sweaty male lard ass!
  • That "lard" you see can pick you up and toss you over the goal post!
  • The screen name "badrott" says it all. I picture some little Danny DiVito looking hairy dude with a beer gut and short stubby cigar.
  • I just commented to my husband last night that they looked like giant diapers!!!
  • Sweet !
  • it gives the langerie football league, some comparison
  • Are you kidding? Too revealing?! Have you seen any of the cheerleaders outfits?! What we now need is women camera people so that there are MORE closeup shots of the players
  • Hey DotcomDenver guy!! THANK YOU!!
  • There is always some Male or Female who is going to make a mountain out of a molehole. What a pity you people are; can't you think about something original to say instead of Blah, Blah,
    Blah!!
  • Ok, no blah, blah, blah. How about only wearing these for San Fransisco home games then?
  • I like that new uniform WOO HOO!
  • Seriously not a problem. I've seen more on network TV.
  • i know a couple of people that like that ass
  • Too revealing? Oh, come now!!!!! If the NFL is trying to attract more female fans, this oughta' do it!!!! BTW - is Tebow wearing Nike this year :-)
  • Ummm....good point - need to check that out next week!!
  • Jeez. Why is it so important for everyone to know and see everything? Also, everything that is designed, made and marketed by Nike is total crap. They don't stop with shoes or clothes but also pollute the visual environment on playing fields as well.
  • Niiiiiiiice, now please turn around.
  • Nice !!!!
  • who cares and get over it...enjoy your team and the game and who cares it they sweat....wrestling is much more revealing and no one goes nuts about it!
  • GOD ... I hope they fix this before the Thanksgiving Day Game ... what a way to ruin a Turkey Dinner
  • I was so glad to see this article because I noticed this and not just during this game. I made a comment about it and was called a "perv" and to stop looking...lol. It was kind of hard to miss though!!!
  • Kind of like a Walmart picture. ;=)))
  • Thought those uniforms were only for 49ers home games?
  • well i feel like its dicrimination so it would only be fare to make the women uniforms out of the same material basketball, tennis etc. now wouldnt that be a beautiful site to see an it would definately create more revenue an more fans.
  • OMG

    you gotta be kidding
    i find it, as a guy.......gross

    if i was a chick.....maybe
or a gay guy would like it

    but in any case......

Handshakes or not, new look Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers will always play a good game

As thrilling as the event was for America in a voyeuristic sort of way, I find myself wishing last year's "handshake gate" incident had never happened. It overshadowed everything that was important in an otherwise fantastic football game between the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers. Lost in all the fury and discussion about proper handshake decorum was the...

Matthew Stafford Tops 300 Yards vs. Rams

Fantasy owners were expecting more from Lions QB Matthew Stafford against a weak Rams defense. Stafford did throw for 355 yards, but three interceptions crushed his value for the day.Fantasy Spin:The Lions were surprisingly average in the passing game until the fourth quarter. Stafford is still a top QB option, but another week like this could cause fantasy owners to panic. As long...

Juan Eye On: Matt Stafford

I hope you don’t have a GIF of my flying fist pump Juan… Matt Stafford was my #1 ranked QB this week.  Talk about a swing and a miss.  Stafford waited 59:50 to throw his first TD pass and although it was game winner for the Lions, it was a disaster of a day for his fantasy owners.  He thew 3 INTs that looked like a rookie would have thrown.  He came close to throwing 4 plus...

Detroit Lions: Week 2 NFL Power Rankings (#22)

Last week: 20 (-2) Record: 1-0 I got several things wrong week 1, finishing 8-8 ATS and 9-7 SU on the week, and several of my bolder preseason predictions are looking kind of shaky (more on that later), but one thing I nailed was that St. Louis would be better than people thought and Detroit would be worse. The odds makers seemed to agree with me, setting the line for Detroit/St...

Rams lose to Lions on late TD in Fisher's debut

DETROIT (AP) -- Matthew Stafford threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Smith with 10 seconds left, lifting the Detroit Lions to a 27-23 win over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Stafford made up for a shaky game by leading an 80-yard, nine-play game-winning possession that included three passes of at least 18 yards. Sam Bradford directed a go-ahead drive that set up Greg Zuerlein...

NFL's First Female Referee Breaks Up Fake Fight Between Cortland Finnegan, Stephen Tulloch (Photo)

The NFL and NFL Referees Association have still not come to terms on a deal. But luckily for coaches, players and fans everywhere, there are replacements roaming the sidelines to keep things in order. After the final whistle blew at Ford Field on Sunday, Rams guard Harvey Dahl and Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh got caught up in a bit of a shoving match. The tussle was quickly...

Lions 27, Rams 23

DETROIT -- Matt Stafford looked shaky in the first half but poised when the Detroit Lions needed him most. Stafford's 5-yard touchdown to running back Kevin Smith with 10 seconds remaining gave the Lions a 27-23 opening-day victory over the St. Louis Rams at Ford Field Sunday. Stafford overcame three first-half interceptions and passed for 355 yards to spoil Jeff Fisher'...

Chris Houston says Randy Moss is just a “possession receiever”

With the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers just days away from facing off against one another this coming Sunday, Lions cornerback Chris Houston thought it would be a good time to talk some trash. Houston told The Detroit News that 49ers wide receiver Randy Moss is only a possession receiver now and that he’s no longer a deep threat. Chris Houston talked a little smack about...

Rams play Lions tough but fall 27-23 in opener

Jeff Fisher hoped his St. Louis Rams could hold Detroit's powerful offense to field goals. They did a pretty good job of that - until the final quarter. Matthew Stafford threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Smith with 10 seconds left, lifting the Lions to a 27-23 victory over the Rams on Sunday. St. Louis intercepted Stafford three times in the first half - returning one...

With Leather’s Watch This: Oh Sweet Irony!

Watching Detroit Lions quarterback Matt Stafford poop the bed against the St. Louis Rams yesterday was rather bothersome for me, as I spent a quarter of my auction league cash on his three-pick-throwing ass a week ago. But then I remembered the above commercial for Monday Night Football and the irony tickled me enough to make me forget that he almost cost me my suicide pick, too...

49ers, Lions prepare for handshake gate rematch

Maybe they can shake hands and put the issue behind them for good. All eyes will certainly be on Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz and San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh when they meet up in Week 2 in a rematch of the 49ers’ 25-19 victory over the Lions at Ford Field last season. Following the Week 6 game, Harbaugh aggressively shook Schwartz’s hand as he ran off the field...

Handshake-gate revisited

The 49ers meet the Detroit Lions on Sunday in their second showdown of unbeaten NFC powers in as many weeks, and you can bet all eyes will be on what happens when coaches Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz meet for a postgame handshake in the nationally-televised clash. The last time that happened, temporary bedlam ensued, creating a controversy that’s sure to be revisited plenty of times this week.

49ers reportedly 'shopping' LaMichael James

The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly “shopping” running back LaMichael James, per Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. The report doesn’t exactly come as a shock, as James has received just 44 offensive touches since entering the league as a second round pick (No. 61 overall) out of Oregon in the 2012 NFL Draft. But looking back, it’s pretty stunning that within two years...
