Via Helmet2Helmet:

Mike Westhoff might have retired, but he isn’t departing before dishing on everyone’s favorite subject: Tim Tebow.
Making an appearance on WQAM in Miami Friday, the longtime (and outspoken) Jets special teams coach classified Tebow’s role with the team as an “absolute mess.”
“It was a mess,” Westhoff said, via ProFootballTalk.com. “It was an absolute mess. You can say it however else you want, it was really a mess. I was very, very disappointed. There are things that Tim Tebow, as an NFL quarterback, he’s very limited in some things. If you throw him in the middle of a drop-back passing offense, he will look very, very average at best. But if you incorporate him in different facets of your offense, I think he can be a factor. That’s what I felt we were going to do, but we never did it.
Westhoff, like the rest of us, was expecting to see Tebow lined up all over the field. It never materialized. His role as the personal punt protector on special teams was “supposed to only be a fraction, and it ended up being his only role.”
That fact left Westhoff with more questions than answers.
“I don’t think anyone’s ever really answered that question,” Westhoff said. “Why didn’t we do it? I honestly don’t know. I know we didn’t practice it. We didn’t practice it in training camp. We were gonna unveil it. Well, I’m still waiting for the unveiling.”
He concluded: “It was a distraction, and really a shame.”
Nail meet head.
Westhoff is one of the most respected coaches around the league, and this is why. Tebow was hyped up by the Jets all throughout training camp and preseason, with the Wildcat package functioning as New York’s super secret weapon.
Truth is, Tebow was baited along all year by the Jets. From his lack of playing time to phantom rib injury to being passed over — twice — for the starting quarterback job, the club completely botched the once-heralded acquisition.
Even if Tebow himself doesn’t want to admit it, the truth came out one last time.
