Finally, a person has come along and perfectly explained Tebowmania by aptly comparing it to another uncontrollable, yet perplexing craze: Bieber Fever. Veteran NFL linebacker Joe Porter, who is almost as well known for his strong opinions off the field as he is for his strong play on it, did not mince words in the least when the topic of Tebow and his ultimate landing place now that his time in Denver is about over came up during an appearance on NFL Total Access Monday, saying (see video here):

"Anybody who brings him in right now, you would think they're trying to do it for ticket sales. So it's just like, it's good to have a Justin Bieber because you're gonna get a whole of (fans). That's what I compare it to. He's the Justin Bieber of the NFL."

Well put. In other words, while tremendously popular, no one can explain exactly why the phenomenon is so attractive to so many people, how it became an unstoppable force unto itself and how it's a fool's task to simply try to ignore it, let alone figure out a way to get rid of it. The free agent Porter also expressed how he would feel if a team he played for made a successful bid at landing Tebow:

"A little disappointed just (because) you don't really know what angle we're going as his team -- are we trying to win right now, or are we playing to get a draft pick for the next year's quarterback, who's gonna be pretty good? Are they trying to set up for (the acquisition of USC's Matt) Barkley?" he said.

"You gotta think that if I'm playing and you bring Tebow in, you're not gonna think like, 'What are we trying to do this year?' I don't think we can win right now with Tebow."

Strong words from a strong man. And who's going to argue with him, not only because he's an intimidating individual but also because he explained it all so eloquently? He's hit the nail right on the head as far as I'm concerned.

  • Joey Porter is a mindless thug seeking attention, I hear he swings both ways...what does that make him?
  • A very satisfied person, I imagine....
  • Confused
  • Hmmm....Tebow is not the best quarterback, but is young and still has value as someone folks admire and thus he can generate ticket sales.
Joey Porter is not the best linebacker, old and pretty much washed up, but because nobody likes him and he is such a loudmouth violent ******* he has no ticket sale value.
    Go figure. lol
  • Who is Joey Porter ? IS HE that dude who shot himself n the A** few Yrs back ?
  • Joey Porter is a little bitch...when he got shot here in Denver, he went to the Childrens Hospital and created a scene before they had him removed to a big people hospital. Reports say he screams like a little girl!
  • Joey Porter? Who's that?
  • Porter, what joke, if he was only 1/2 of the football player that Teabow is. Porter just can't handle not getting the attention, he needs to go out and prove it on the field as Teabow has, then he can run his slobbering mouth.
  • If Tebow was black, Porter would not have a problem with him. He's nothing but a racist thug with a big mouth.
  • if tebow was black he also wouldn't be getting this kind of attention. you know being a running QB and all
  • Everyone knows Porters done. He's trying to get rehired or a Jornalisim job.
    NOH8
Tebow has skills quit the media crap and let him do what he is made to do. Back him up. He can throw and he can run. Let him show you and in the process maybe you can win.
  • who is Joey porter?
  • Joey Boy we invite you to come to Taylor county Fla. and talk smack about Tebow. We will teach you some manners son
  • Tebow is being exploited. he's not an nfl QB and from what i've seen i don't think he'll ever be. i agree with porter tebow is really not a good QB on this level and believe he was brought in to sell tickets. now maybe have him coming out of the backfield he may perform well or in the wildcat, other than that your wasting alot of time trying to make him something he isn't.

Eli on Geno Smith: If fans yell at you, you probably deserve it

Eli Manning is no stranger to the boo birds. The New York Giants quarterback has gone through his fair share of struggles while under center, and subsequently had a good number of unprintable insults hurled his way by the home fans. But despite all of the harassing and heckling Manning has endured, he’s never stooped to the fans’ level and responded, although he certainly empathizes...

49ers players come out in support of Jim Harbaugh

It’s probably not all too suprising that multiple San Francisco 49ers players have come out in support head coach Jim Harbaugh. It was reported by NFL Media’s Deion Sanders on Sunday night that some within the 49ers locker room want Harbaugh out. ESPN’s Trent Dilfer also called the environment under Harbaugh in San Francisco “toxic.” On Monday, veteran Alex Boone came out...

Belichick: Pats 'didn't play well enough at all' against Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Bill Belichick didn’t give many direct answers about the New England Patriots’ embarrassing 41-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night, as we’ve come to expect. Perhaps Belichick’s clearest answer came when he had “no response” as the Chiefs’ public relations staff transcribed after the game. Belichick scoffed when asked if the quarterback...
