Now, God does not promise that those who believe will receive riches or success in this life. In fact, he promises quite the opposite. No, believers can expect to be scorned and persecuted, but in the end they can also look forward to eternal glory in heaven.

I mean, I know there are those who adamantly do not believe in God or the Bible or anything to do with religion of any sort. But even "true believers" must understand that large parts of the Bible, Genesis in particular, is nothing more than a fantasy. A hypothetical construct which people of the time rendered to try to explain what they could not understand.

(Most atheists are the polar opposite of this group. They don't understand so they simply disavow. Agnostics may well be the wisest bunch of us all. They admit that the entire concept is far too big for them to comprehend so they simply admit they don't know.)

And then we have to consider how many times since the first Bible was hand drawn and embellished by the first monk to put it down on parchment that the tome has been re-interpreted and manipulated by various dynasties for personal or political gain. Which chapters to leave in? Which to leave out? And can we take this meaning for that instead of that one? ... and then what about the poor schmuck who was used for this translation or that who knew the language but not all that well and so his translation itself is flawed? Remember that it was well after "Adam" and "Eve" were long gone from the face of the earth before anyone decided to write down the 'where we came from' stories. And, as far as I know, there were no eyewitnesses to those early 'conversations' with God to tell the first Biblical historians what went on and who said what. And the story itself, as you present it, is actually more than a bit humorous. Here we have an omnipotent, omniscient God who says, "Where are you?" and "Did you ...?" Yes, you can rationalize they "why"s and "wherefore"s but the truth is, it's just funny. It is unsubstantiated and without any proof or truth. It was made up by people trying to understand what they could not understand.

They decided what was in and what was out at the Conference of Nicea in 325 A.D.. This is where the Roman Emperor Constantine gathered some of the church leaders of the day to decide what the official Christian doctrine was to be. As before there were many different sects that believed many different things. After the conference anyone that followed any of the doctrines or books that were left out of the bible were killed or severely punished. My question is, who was Constantine to decide what the official doctrine was to be? How did they decide what works were truly from God and others were not? In my opinion the whole purpose was to make people accept getting screwed over in this life because when you die God will reward you. If all books were divinely inspired, how could any man determine what was right and what was wrong. After learning this I became very suspect of religion. That's why I believe that God and religion have nothing to do with each other. I also think it is ridiculous to believe God picks the winner and loser of football game. I've prayed before games and stuck it up and didn't pray before other games and had the best games of my career.

Constantine was only one manipulator of the Bible books. The Anglican Church did a fine job through the ages of spin doctoring the big book to say what they wanted, as did the Catholic Church. Believe it or not, they even have substantive evidence that he was, in fact, a woodworker. As for the water into wine, etc. there is only period anecdotal evidence which can easily be misconstrued, misrepresented, or whatever. It cannot, in this day and age, be proved true or false. Again, it falls to the ignorant to state absolutely that there is no God. There is no annointed one. It is in the agnostic that the greatest grasp of reality lies. The universe is greater than any of us can begin to fathom and to say anything with any degree of absolute certainty only proves we know nothing. Even that god of the modern age, science, has proved its fallibility over and over again through the ages as one generation's scientists state some truth absolutely only to have the next generation's science prove that "absolute truth" to be wrong. Provided they had prayed or someone else had prayed asking for it for them. I feel (see disclaimer) that God did create everything. With that I also believe that he created random chance as well. Since he gifted us with the capacity for free will. We have choices. We can choose. If the teams choose to win. Then they will win based on the choices they have made in the past and during the game. Now, I hear you saying choices in the past? Ok, I mean like choosing to practice more, instead of slacking off because your just to good. Choosing to sharpen your skills. Learning and doing those skills until they are as involuntary as breathing. So having said all that. It comes down to the choices they will make. Pass or rush. Long bomb or short pitch. This guy or that guy. Wind. Temp. Glare. It all comes down to random chance based off your choices.

I believe there is some confusion here. People are going to have faith. They can use that faith in order to achieve something. But God is not going to look at one team or another and say they have greater faith, will, courage, long suffering, or other qualities of enduring faith in order to win a football game. Many fans must be utterly retarded. How can anyone be dumb enough to think they're imaginary friend is rigging football games, while 1/3 of the world's population is either starving or malnourished? This line of thought is beyond stupid.

We quite literally have countries that are practically the equivalent to hell on Earth... There's more important things going on in the world then which team wins a competitive sport (which also means by definition which team loses, also)...

I think these fans could use a little perspective. Yes, we obviously watch/follow sports, or we likely wouldn't be visiting the site. But one's sense of perspective has to be a tad out of whack if the thinking is "my team wins" is more important and more deserving of attention then people being gunned down by corrupt world leaders or the like...

One of the teams has to win, so if GOD determines the outcome of a game then that means he let one of them down.

God created everyone of his own free will to think and believe what ever he so choses. You have every right to say there is no God. But it doesn't make it so. God has no influence on the outcome of sports...only the people with open hearts who play them. People shut God out of their lives and then when something tragic happens, they blame him. Hummm!

Only if you're an American! Really?!?!?!?! And would you blame God or think he was responsible for any serious injuries! There are people in this country who think God said for us to have guns, there are people who invoke God's name before they take part in battle, in which they'd take part in killing God's OTHER children, and there are people who pray to God before they take a test. But NO! God does not care/control sports events! And if he did, WTH happened to my Cowboys.

With all that's going on in the world any god I believe in BETTER have more important things to do than get involved in some 'game' played by grossly overpaid jocks that means almost less than zero in the events of the day. And if he IS involved....he's fired! There are WAY too many gods to choose from to settle for one with nothing better to do than follow sports. Maybe THAT'S why we're as messed up as we are. God's given up too and figures we might as well go out beating the spread.

I don't beleive God plays a role in the outcome of a game but I do believe a player can pray for God to help him do the best to his ability.

Sorry to say, but this is stupid. Setting aside the whole religion vs atheism discussion for a moment; it's a good bet you have Christians (along with Jews, agnostics, atheists, perhaps a few Buddhists, and yes these days it would seem Muslims as well) who happen to be fans on more then one of these teams, perhaps all of them. So two guys pray for a win being fans of opposing teams.

These people really believe that God made their team win, which of course means making the team for the fan who prayed in favor of the opposing team lose? You can't have a winner without also having a loser. Seriously? What reason would there be for some omnipotent being to take sides and "cause" the other guy to lose, to the disappointment of the opposing teams own fans? Give me a break :o Quite frankly, I would find it of no comfort to think of an omnipotent being as being partial, whimsical, and "taking sides" in matters of human competition. This is just stupid. There is no way our creator would take sides on a freakin' game; making one win over another. Now I do think He would have a lot to do with individual's safety. Praying for everyone to come out of the game healthy would be a very good thing.

We all know that "God" is a figment of "mans" imagination. Do we honestly believe that the world was created by a omnipotent being? Talking snakes in the Garden of Eden, large boats carrying an assortment of animals, a virgin birth?? Are you having a laugh? Wake up, read Darwin, the world is not only 5,000 years old, its much more older and wiser.
