From NESN:

This coming Sunday a new NFL champion will be crowned, and it will be either the Baltimore Ravens or the San Francisco 49ers. And, if you are one of more than a quarter of Americans, you believe that God will actively decide the winner of the game.
According to a recent survey by the Public Religion Research Institute, 27 percent of Americans believe that God “plays a role in determining which team wins a sporting event.” However, the numbers get even more specific than that. About 40 percent of minority Christians and white evangelical Protestants believe God determines outcomes, while only 19 percent of mainline Protestants do.
Thirty-six percent of Americans living in the South agree that God plays a role in sports. However, in perhaps a twist of expectations, 28 percent of Democrats agree, while only 25 percent of Republicans think that God plays a role.
But in addition to God’s overall role in the outcome of games, a majority of all Americans — 53 percent — believe “God rewards athletes who have faith with good health and success.”
So, that ought to work out well for Ray Lewis this Sunday.

and this just in.."pole dancing".
Unless God is a bookie I doubt he has any influence on the nfl.
God doesn't exist.
"Out of something evil, a better goodness will come out of it".
Finally, you may have a firm belief that your beliefs are correct but you cannot know with absolute certainty. So it might be a good idea to give a little allowance that someone else's theory might be right. Just maybe.
Here's a funny bit of a history lesson for you. In WWII, America, with our "In God We Trust" motto emblazoned on our currency, going with us everywhere including onto the battlefield, fought with the confidence that God was on our side. The German army's uniform, however, included a belt with a buckle engraved with the legend translated to English as, "God is With Us".
Both sides of that conflagration were certain that they were fighting for God! But, what was that line from that old thing ...? Oh-h, what was it? Oh, yeh. I know! "Thou shalt not kill."
And always it has been thus. Men fight and kill and destroy all in the name of God. So, does God have a favorite football team? Why isn't it the Saints? And does God play favorites? What about a fair and just God?
In the final analysis, the one truth we can take from this article is that 27% of Americans are complete and total idiots!
godah in the old testaments 613 commandmentsah..to a lawdah

Oh, I wish I was not at work right now! I'd be LOL for sure.
Now, God does not promise that those who believe will receive riches or success in this life. In fact, he promises quite the opposite. No, believers can expect to be scorned and persecuted, but in the end they can also look forward to eternal glory in heaven.
Gen 3
3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush[b] your head,
and you will strike his heel.”
16 To the woman he said,
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”
17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”
20 Adam[c] named his wife Eve,[d] because she would become the mother of all the living.
21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[e] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)
(Most atheists are the polar opposite of this group. They don't understand so they simply disavow. Agnostics may well be the wisest bunch of us all. They admit that the entire concept is far too big for them to comprehend so they simply admit they don't know.)
And then we have to consider how many times since the first Bible was hand drawn and embellished by the first monk to put it down on parchment that the tome has been re-interpreted and manipulated by various dynasties for personal or political gain. Which chapters to leave in? Which to leave out? And can we take this meaning for that instead of that one? ... and then what about the poor schmuck who was used for this translation or that who knew the language but not all that well and so his translation itself is flawed? Remember that it was well after "Adam" and "Eve" were long gone from the face of the earth before anyone decided to write down the 'where we came from' stories. And, as far as I know, there were no eyewitnesses to those early 'conversations' with God to tell the first Biblical historians what went on and who said what. And the story itself, as you present it, is actually more than a bit humorous. Here we have an omnipotent, omniscient God who says, "Where are you?" and "Did you ...?" Yes, you can rationalize they "why"s and "wherefore"s but the truth is, it's just funny. It is unsubstantiated and without any proof or truth. It was made up by people trying to understand what they could not understand.
There are so many facets to the problem of manipulation of the printed Word but, in your case, pilarsar, to quote chapter and verse as though it was some absolute, undefiable, unerring, carved in stone truth is just too naive for words. Were that so, why do we have so many different versions of the Bible?
Amen, Thank God the world as we know it will be coming to an end soon. Mankind or Humans have created this 'Hell on Earth' Pollution is real & so is Global Warming, because we have nearly destroyed Ourselves & Earth, Nature is unleashing it's fury upon all. Do you believe in Good & Bad? Right & Wrong? Holy & Evil? Well I do. I know for a fact there is God & I know there is Satan. The Devil has tried taking my life over twenty times in many different ways. If I wrote a book it would be a worldwide selling novel. God gives everyone FREE WILL. Not only have I saw Hell & Demons, I've seen Angels protecting me from many bullets,stabbings,5 car wrecks,explosions,electrocutions,3 car jackings, beatings and more! The Devil has tried killing me many times in many ways, but God has allowed him to only harm me a little. Sure I'm scarred all up, but I'm alive. I know for a fact that not just in my mind, but physically and spiritually there is in fact a God. I have been given Faith & many other insights. On the other hand many are called but few are chosen!! My name was written in The Lambs Book Of Life before I was ever born!! You can laugh all you want at me, I've had Satanist try & kill me unsuccessfully also. I'm not in fear at all of dying & I in fact accept it happily. No I'm not a fanatic or crazy person who wants to die, I just know that when I die there is something more for me than most. It's harder for a rich man to go through the eye of a needle than to enter the gates of Heaven. The Bible is living & can be interpreted many different ways for a reason. It gives us many lessons in life. It's not supposed to be able to be understood by 'man' or the highest scholars, it can only be truly understood through God. I'm 100% a sinner & it's hard to stop doing wrong. I know that I am & I try to do better. The fact of the matter is that many people out there that say they are Christians are not! Christian means Christ Like, that's a hard act to follow. I believe in no Religion, I believe in Relation. After all, religion might not be what you're supposed to be longing, especially since 'Evil' men have used it to kill millions.
It's really sad that the truth is that everyone is looking for answers & people are so dumb(especially today’s society) they think that if I can't see it then it's not real. Can you see the Air you breathe? Can you see the center of the Earth? Far away galaxies? If using an instrument some people can see some of these things. The Bible can be considered an Instrument of Faith, learning, understanding, a daily way of living, etc. It's supposed to be this way, where there are non believers and many false religions. Very few people get to go to Heaven! Society today is sick & twisted to the max! All great nations in the past fell once 'evil' ran rampant. It's OK to be Gay,Abortion, a complete lack of all moral fiber, etc. This country is doomed as long as things keep going the way they are & it will not be long at all before it's in ruins. Just like all nations have been proven to fall. Romans,Greeks, etc.
Everything that's happening on Earth right now is supposed to be happening. All true believers smile & know the end is near!!
God is not a fan of any team of any sport, people like Tim Tebow are just hypocrites that like to be seen by people in public (Mathew 6:5,6 “Also, when YOU pray, YOU must not be as the hypocrites; because they like to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the broad ways to be visible to men. Truly I say to YOU, They are having their reward in full.6 You, however, when you pray, go into your private room and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you.)
I believe in freedom of religion and freedom from religion. If you want to go around praising God, fine. Just don't involve me.
meanjean52 is also on the money. If god is in control of all things, he's doing a really crappy job.
So is STLDan. Wow, that dude is a jerk.
I better pray that he doesn't exist, riverbanks? To who? To What? There's nothing there!
"If God did not exist, man would have to invent him" - Voltaire
of the 14th century b.c.. After over a decade of draught Moses
didn't have to plea "free my people" ..they>the slaves< were
"runn-oft"..It woulda been more like.."get the hell outta my
country"..since adequate supplies of food were so diminished
that people started to eat one another..Moses, being the
architect, scholar and adopted son of the starving kingdom
decided to take advantage of this opportunity. Hence the 1st
5 books of the bible..which nearly condemns all existable
humanity with that wonderful List Of 613 Commandments..
2. he was also born in Tuscaloosa and played his college ball for the "bear" in the early 60's.
3. He did help the winning team.
Really how would he choose? Oh I know it's a cain and able thing with the harbough brothers, one is good one is evil - which is which? 9er brother or raven brother, i sort of get evil connotations from ravens, so i bet he makes the 9ers win
Every penny he makes is from his videos & books, which people buy all on their own.
He's sold millions & does not ever get any money from the church. Millions of dollars, well he does not need to ask. People are happy to give they are so happy.
I think a lot of the people that are writing all this bad stuff are really bitter & sad & wish they could feel better.
All you have to do is try & have Faith. It's really hard though. You have to humble yourselves & admit your a sinner. Well, at least I tried. Most of you are not willing to do that, to admit you're wrong.
genius
I do not feel that God would directly influence a football game or any other sporting event. Other than keeping the players and patrons safe during the event. Provided they had prayed or someone else had prayed asking for it for them. I feel (see disclaimer) that God did create everything. With that I also believe that he created random chance as well. Since he gifted us with the capacity for free will. We have choices. We can choose. If the teams choose to win. Then they will win based on the choices they have made in the past and during the game. Now, I hear you saying choices in the past? Ok, I mean like choosing to practice more, instead of slacking off because your just to good. Choosing to sharpen your skills. Learning and doing those skills until they are as involuntary as breathing. So having said all that. It comes down to the choices they will make. Pass or rush. Long bomb or short pitch. This guy or that guy. Wind. Temp. Glare. It all comes down to random chance based off your choices.
Does being catholic damn you to hell ? Are you completely crazy
oe did you just escape from the looney bin?
I think these fans could use a little perspective. Yes, we obviously watch/follow sports, or we likely wouldn't be visiting the site. But one's sense of perspective has to be a tad out of whack if the thinking is "my team wins" is more important and more deserving of attention then people being gunned down by corrupt world leaders or the like...
That's what is wrong with America.
These people really believe that God made their team win, which of course means making the team for the fan who prayed in favor of the opposing team lose? You can't have a winner without also having a loser. Seriously? What reason would there be for some omnipotent being to take sides and "cause" the other guy to lose, to the disappointment of the opposing teams own fans? Give me a break :o Quite frankly, I would find it of no comfort to think of an omnipotent being as being partial, whimsical, and "taking sides" in matters of human competition. I'd find it, quite dis-quieting tbh ;)
We all know that "God" is a figment of "mans" imagination. Do we honestly believe that the world was created by a omnipotent being? Talking snakes in the Garden of Eden, large boats carrying an assortment of animals, a virgin birth?? Are you having a laugh? Wake up, read Darwin, the world is not only 5,000 years old, its much more older and wiser.
