From Larry Brown Sports:

The average NFL rookie would be in awe of a scene like the Pro Bowl. It may not be one of the most highly-rated television events of the year, but the NFL’s All-Star game still brings together the most talented football players in the world and a number of future Hall of Famers.

Last season, Cam Newton was selected to the 2012 NFC Pro Bowl roster after an outstanding rookie season. According to a report from Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com, he walked into Honolulu like he owned the place. And not in a good way.

According to several players in the game, some from both teams, Newton’s standoffish, diva ways made him enemy No. 1 in the eyes of some of the players.

“He was a total —-hole,” one AFC player said. “Who did he think he was? He acted like the big sh–. Here he was at his first game and he acted like he was the star. Guys didn’t like that.”

Another player said a player asked Newton for his autograph — presumably to give to the player’s child — and Newton “big-timed” him by telling him “now’s not the time.” The same player also said he was also disrespectful to 13-time Pro Bowler Ray Lewis.

“That’s the godfather there,” one player said. “Can you believe he did that?”

When asked about the alleged exchange through the Ravens PR department, Lewis denied that Newton dissed him. However, several other players confirmed that it happened. As Prisco pointed out, that would help explain why several AFC defensive players cranked up the intensity when Newton came into the game and seemed to hit him harder than the other quarterbacks. That was not the case when rookie Andy Dalton took snaps for the AFC.

“Cam’s in his own world,” one of Newton’s NFC teammates said. “He’s a young guy and learning, but he better change. They started rushing him. We were like, ‘what are they doing? This is the Pro Bowl.’ They didn’t attempt that with the other guys. They went after him. He better learn soon. You don’t want to go out there and get hurt at the Pro Bowl.”

The report should shock no one when you take into account stories like this and this, but it certainly sheds some light onto what type of person Newton is, if it is true. The Pro Bowl is generally a time for camaraderie and respect shared among the game’s best — not an opportunity for rookies to act like hot shots.

  • I called this guys number last year. I seen what and arrogant ignoramous this guy really is. The ROOKIE is playing in the NFL and he's in the endzone acting the fool with his superman impersonation...REALLY!!!
This boy couldn't hold 99% of the NFL quarterbacks jockstrap that play today. Sorry but I see CAM MORON as part of this new breed of arrogant self entitled prima donnas that are over paid and untested when coming into this league. Cam Newtons are the reason why fans are paying too much for over inflated tickets to see some JACKWAGON make an ass out of himself in the NFL. Hope to see this guys knees blown out shortly.
  • I have met Cam Personally, very sweet. He was eating out in Auburn and I asked if I could have my pic taken with him he stood up and said No Problem. People only see what they want to see. He is one Great Quarterback.
  • so from your math this guy is the worst QB in the league? I'm sure there are at the very least, 8 teams that would replace their current QB with this guy, and I bet that there are another 12 teams that would like to have him to compete for a starting spot. And, Cam gets 22 million over 4 years, gues what previous #1's got??? Sam Bradford got almost 4 times that amount(78 million) the year before. FYI they changed the structure of the draft/contract rules. I guess you're not afraid to make an ass of yourself, so why should a guy making over 5 million a year be? And, it's so nice of you to wish injuries upon someone, you know what they say about karma, dip$hit!!!
  • Sounds like you're the guy this article should be about. LMAO
  • Oh my god! He was disrepectful to a guy that was almost certainly involved in the murder of another man! How DARE he!
  • Who wouldn't be disrespectable to Ray Lewis, a drug dealer and a murderer godfather my a**. Lewis should have went to jail, but him being famous football player saved his butt.
  • Amen, Ray Lewis is a thug. All these gangbangers are thugs
  • wow, so glad people know the entire lewis story, not just what they read in the headlines
  • I admit that it is hard not to like Lewis based on the things players and pretty much every coach he has ever had have said about him. However, I lived in Atlanta when the crime occurred. At the very least Ray is guilty of obstruction of justice in a double murder case. Also the fact is that 2 people are dead and no one was ever convicted of their murders.
  • LOL, and whats it called when a reporter drums up a meaningless story 12 months after the fact??? HATER ALERT!!!

Yeah Cams so selfish, every time the Panthers Score a Touchdown he runs over, and takes the ball away from the Panther who scored it, and gives it the to first kid he sees in the stands. What a jerk, and you know that kid didn't pay for the ticket too, and their seats are 20 row higher up. It think Cam is raciest against old guys...
  • This is gossip , not news.
  • We all reap what we sow, Carolina Panthers 3-9. 3-9 sure doen't seem like a superman effort. Small fish smaller pond.

  • True.
  • "If it is true" says it all.

An article evidently based on rumor, not fact as stated by the author "if it is true."

You are an idiot.."if it is true."

This guy must be Harvey Updyke's brother.lol
  • This report, even though it's months late, doesn't surprise me. Newton is an arrogant guy who better get some humility and start being a leader. He should watch Peyton Manning, take notes, and then just do his job. Any player with a team that's 3-9 should be focusing on the problems and not be signaling first downs and acting like superman.
  • Well, I guess Cam won't have to worry about any Pro Bowl payback this season.
  • This season has cut him down to the AS- Hole Pro bowel Game. He a good canidate for some PR classes.
  • Young athletes are "discovered" in middle school . They are fawned over and patronized to the level that there is no way they can develop any sense of humility. The ability to throw a ball 65 yards or sink 30' jump shots may be their only positive attributes . You ain't paying $75 to enjoy their intelligence or personality.
That stated, chill out , sit back and enjoy the things they do well. Marvel at the 97 MPH fastball. Embellish that 55 yard end around. The chef may be a criminal but you can still enjoy the meal
  • Its pretty bad when one of your own teammates has to go over to where you are siting and sulking on the bench and tell you to get up and go stand over on the sidelines and learn something from your mistakes !! Couldn't stand him in college and can't stand him now!! Look up crybaby in the dictionary and you will see " Cam Newton " ...
  • Did anyone lose a laptop while he was around? There won't be a pro-bowl for scam newton this year.
  • the hell with cam newton i never liked him at auburn, rephrase that i dont like him as a football player i really dont know him as aperson but if what i read is true then he needs to change that. i do however think hes arrogant and he dose think hes the sh*t, but as we see this year really shows how teams in the nfl will come get you when you think you all that.
  • Newton is a class A scum bag. I'm sure most of his teammates can't stand him as he makes it all about himself and is not a team player.

Jaguars coach calls out Blake Bortles: ‘We expect more’

Through eight starts, the question remains whether Blake Bortles is definitively the Jaguars’ quarterback of the future. What we do know is he’s struggling in the present. The No. 3 overall draft pick, who started off fairly strong in Jacksonville, has plummeted in recent weeks, regressing to the error-prone ways that are typical of rookie signal-callers. Bortles has thrown...

Why would the New York Jets not want Rex Ryan to discuss his father’s health issues? Ryan’s father, legendary former NFL coach Buddy Ryan, is battling cancer. Rex went to visit Buddy during the Week 11 bye, but apparently the Jets don’t want him talking to reporters about the 83-year-old’s illness. Here’s what Manish Mehta...Read More
