It was recently announced in the past few days that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has signed a five-year extension that is good through March of 2019. It was revealed that during his contract there is potential to earn upwards of $20 million per year. His previous contract saw him making $10 per year so the potential of making twice as much money has left one current NFL player Atlanta Falcons Roddy White extremely offended. On Monday, White went onto Twitter expressing his anger about the commish’s new contract extension:

For the most part I do not like Roger Goodell due the way he is running the league into the ground with the overprotection of quarterbacks, head-shot hits, video-replay decisons, what is actually considered a catch…. I could keep going.

Most of the time I would like to defend the NFL players when they step up and go public with critical comments towards the league and in particular Roger Goodell.

However, in this circumstance that cannot be done because White looks like an absolute fool with his comments. Sure he may not be able to run, pass, catch or tackle but that is irrelevant to the amount of money he should earn.

Goodell works for the owners of the league. His primary objective is to earn money for them. Something he has been extremely successful at doing; including the record-breaking 8-year, $39 billion television contract that is set to begin in 2014.

  • Goodell is a joke they need to get rid of him he's killing the game. the only person he's helping is himself... what a joke
  • White doesnt realize that Goodell can run tackle and catch..Did call three running over the players Union lol......
  • Hey Roddy: Ever heard the old saying "people who know "how" will always have a job. People who know "why" will always be their boss"
Roddy's a good player but why does everyone think that running a multi-billion dollar corporation successfully is easy???
I know how to do what Roddy does, I just don't have the talent to do it. I don't know how to do Roger's job and I don't have the skill set...it's very difficult. You dummies who think it's easy are clueless.

Get real Gents: If running big companies were easy, you'd be doing it. It takes years of work AND discipline to get the opportunity!
  • HE IS NOT RUNNING IT SUCCESSFULLY YOU MORON. They almost shut this past season down. When players, fans and everyone inbetween has problems with the league, its not being run correctly. Of course its hard to run a company, but when the person running it is running it into the ground, its time for someone else to try.
  • whos roddy white
  • Roddy--heres reality--There are ditch diggers and those that tell people where to dig and amazingly who makes more money.Get with what's real .The man is educated, went to school for years--How much schooling have you gone through-Besides your God given physical talents:what have you worked as hard for as Goodell.Next time you players sign a CBA--how about also--bargaining for life time health care so we don't have to hear you whining how--surprise surprise --multiple head hits can cause dementia or worse--The mere fact that White says something about Goodell shows his startling cluelessness of how the world actually runs
  • Well said. I will go one further. Who are we to judge or comment about salary? I think half the players in all the pro sport leagues are over payed but if the fans are filling the parking lots and seats and the apparel and programs are selling and the vendors are feeding and intoxicating spectators and the networks are advertising and it's one big oiled machine employing hundreds of thousands nationwide a year then they all must be doing their jobs at some level. Including you Roddy White.

Also, thank you for your service EXNAVY2003 and all soldiers and veterans and their understanding families=) Good day!
  • thanks ThanksSoldiers--have a great day
  • Players can also be replaced Roddy--get a @#$%^&* clue
  • what an idiot you are White, Goddell reaised the revenue from 7 billion to 9 billion since he's been running the show making all you idiots even more cash. What do you think you would be doing without football and even a bigger laugh is a knucklhead like you trying to run the NFL. Just shut your piehole and kiss your you know what everytime you get a check....knucklhead
  • Not a comment, a question. How did Goodell raise revenues ?
  • Excuse me Mr. Roddy White...I believe the FANS make this league. If it wasn't for the fans using their hard earned money for tickets and apparel, there would be no NFL. I don't think Goodell is worth the money and quite frankly neither are you.
  • Really Roddy? "How in the hell can u pay a man this much money that cant run tackle or CATCH". Pretty ballsy comment coming from someone who led the NFL in drop passes this year. You might wanna leave out the "catch" part next time dipsh%t...
  • "His previous contract saw him making $10 per year so the potential of making twice as much money . . . "

$10 this past year to $20 million is a hell of a lot more than twice the amount. I guess $10 should be $10 million! LOL
  • No wonder ticket prices are so high. Goodell is not worth it.
  • White looks like an absolute fool because he is.
  • Players should NEVER run a league. There is only one commishioner, there are over 1600 players. The whole pro sports landscape changed when players started making more $$ than coaches and managers. How can you coach a player (Lebron or Dirk & the rest), that make WAY more $$ than there coach. The idiots that support these leagues (paying fans), should use their money to support real heroes (teachers, cops and OUR military), or give that money to charities. I understand supply and demand, just cant figure out how our disentegrating country can keeping wanting a supply of these ridiculous salarys for people PLAYING a game. 20 Mil for the commish is ridiculous, but he does need to be the highest paid person in the NFL.
  • There are many PLAYERS that make more than Goodell...especially when you consider the endorsement money they earn for being great players.
Goodell has a degree...roddy white went to college but his IQ is ...questionable.
EDUCATION AND HIGH INTELLIGENCE, RODDY, is WHY you pay a man more than some idiot that can catch and run.

As an African American...havent you figured out that EDUCATION and INTELLIGENCE is far more important than athletic skills???

Why were so many Africans taken and forced into slavery when they had better athletic skills...???

    Whe
  • I'd bet dollars to donuts that Roddy has more "EDUCATION AND HIGH INTELLIGENCE" than you!
  • Slavery is a horrific crime...no one should ever be forced to this and it is shameful for ANY HUMAN to impose his will on another...
  • Don't get me started. I've been telling ya'll that RG is a cancer for quite a while. He had a chance to lay down the law when Bill Belechik was videotaping games, i.e. Jets! He did nothing! A $250,000 fine & lose a couple draft picks. What a joke! In fact, the very next day Kraft signed him to a long term deal, and I'm sure Kraft paid the fine as well. Goodell's actions here basically told the rest of the league, that this is OK! The guy doesn't realize that this country is in a recession. Let's have a game that's played out of the country every year. Hello?! Has anyone told him the Europeans could care less about football, remember NFL Europe! The Canadian's have some joke of what they think is football. Keep taking food off American's tables you JERK!
Yet he keeps entertaining the idea of having playoff games including the Superbowl out of this country. The old gentlemen, Pete Rozelle & Paul Tagliabue are rolling over in their graves. Being that his mother didn't shoot him in the crib, he should be thrown off the roof somewhere!!! It's time to get rid of the dictators in our society! Hey Roger Goodell, go to hell!!!
  • I wonder how much this will cost Roddy White for having the guts to speak out about this clown. When the players negotiated the new contract, they should have bargained for a new commissioner. Goodell has ruined the game. Fines for hits, fines for disagreeing with him or any of his cronies, and the list go on. If he continues, hitting will be illegal, the sandlot rule of 1-1000 2-1000 3-1000 then rush the quarterback or no defensive player allowed across the line of scrimmage, make it 2 hand touch or flag, no defender allowed within a yard or 2 of a receiver, no penalties called on the offensive team and defensive penalties are a touchdown, Goodell is a dictator accountable to no one with an outrageous salary. Get rid of Goodell, make a football player the commissioner, and get back to football, not this garbage he is putting out.
  • Roddy shut up and play try and win us a playoff game please. and so you and the rest of the players know the fans make the NFL without us you would have to work a 40 hr week job.
  • roddy has zero perspective goodell has very little perspective 10 mil 20mil i make 45 thousand shut your whiny sh88
  • Roddy Who ?, if it wasn't for Goodell you wouldn't be making the money you do now. Shut up and do your job better and Goodell will do his. In the NFL the right parties are running this ship, not like the NBA.
  • BullSh....He would still be making the money he is now no matter what suit and tie was running the show. It takes a lot more hard work and skill to do what Roddy is doing than the job that Goodell lucked into. The NFL is so popular that you would have to be a complete moron to f it up, which Goodell almost did! Roger didn't build the NFL. The players did. I don't see anyone walking around with a GOODELL 20 jersey.
  • Roddy is right on! A 10 million dollar raise for pushing paper is utterly ridiculous. You really think the commisioners job is that hard? Give me a freakin break. That may be the way it is but that doesn't make it right ands quite frankly, that's a microcosm wrong with the whole damn country. CEO/workers earning ratio has got way out of line.
