Bill Belichick’s reputation for being a poor sport precedes him, but that didn’t stop Shannon Sharpe from calling out the coach after the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. According to NFL on CBS host James Brown, Belichick declined an interview with the network following New England’s 28-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Sharpe unloaded on Belichick for the poor show. “There’s something to be said about being gracious in defeat,” Sharpe said. “We’ve seen the New England Patriots five times in the last 12 years be victorious. And we’ve seen the opposing coaches that lost come out and talk to our Steve Tasker. Coach Cowher did it when [the Steelers] lost to them. We saw this last week [when the Patriots beat the Texans]. “Bill Belichick makes it real easy for you to root against the Patriots. You can’t be a poor sport all the time. You’re not gonna win all the time. And he does this every time he loses. It is unacceptable.” Sharpe is absolutely correct with his analysis. Belichick has been doing this for years. He ditched his interview with NBC after losing the Super Bowl to the Giants last year, and he grabbed a referee after being upset following a Patriots loss to the Ravens earlier this season. Belichick was the only coach who blew off the media at owners meetings in 2011. He skipped handshakes when he was coaching the Cleveland Browns. Belichick is just a poor sport who doesn’t like to lose or work with the media. He does make the Patriots unlikable. What Belichick needs to realize is that you can’t win all the time, so it is important to be somewhat gracious in defeat. As for Sharpe, though his analysis of Belichick was right on, he needs to work on his balance. I don’t recall him saying anything about Peyton Manning declining an interview with CBS last weekend, nor did he say anything about his brother, Sterling, being inaccessible to the media during his career. • Leave him be. I personally think he should speak even if briefly. However, he may feel he can't speak "appropriately" due to emotions and I get that. Now leave the man alone. He is who he is.
  • Nope. He is in a very public position, and he just needs to suck him up. If he can't speak appropriately for a sound byte , tough.
New England fans probably don't care. But the rest of the fan base looks at him like what he is - a big fat baby.
  • Agreed
  • I personally feel Bill Belichick is a sore loser. He is so unsportsmanlike. I root against the Patriots every chance I
get. They have a jerk for a coach and a crybaby Quarterback.
I will say Brady is good but not as good as his ego thinks he is
  • Absolutely agreed. I used to like Brady. But after his cry-baby performance.... he went from winner to loser in my book.

I hope he loses his endorsements.
  • maybe buy him a dress, cry baby.
  • AMEN!!!!!!!
  • He'll speak, eventually. He was probably so ticked off at how his team played that he was being a better sport by NOT speaking! The rightful team won.
  • Yep.
  • He was ticked off at how his team played? UMMM, he's the head coach. He's just as guilty for their loss.
  • Snannon's intrevue pwobabwy would have snucked anywaves.
  • Not as bad as your grammar and spelling...
  • Peyton might not have spoken with the media, but it was widely reported that he and his family waited over an hour so that he could personally congratulate Ray Lewis on his career and impending retirement.
Mr. Belichick is extremely well-paid and part of his compensation is to deal (graciously we hope) with the media. He is not winning any popularity contests and has actually driven people to root against his team.
  • Why on earth would Peyton Manning, a well-respected NFL QB, wait over an hour to congratulate a murderer?? He just lost a lot of respect in my book, thanks for making me aware. Just because you're a great NFL player doesn't mean you're a good person. He just got away with it and people have seem to forgotten that 2 men were murdered and he had something to do with it.
  • how does anyone know sharpe slammed anyone?

has he ever spoken a coherent word since he has been on that panel of fools............?

how can he possibly still have a job........?

    mind boggling
  • hey lopfran when u switch over from watching bowling and pop off about one of the best tightends to play the game then I think u r incoherent what dork response, u probably never played a down of football in your life,so go back to the dart board or whatever u play for fun, oh ya bowling haha loser
  • Not exactly a "rip". All he said is that he was a poor sport.
  • Snorry Snannon, he pwobabwy dint mean it perthonawy.
  • u need to learn how to spell homie
  • You don't suppose Shannon is a little MORE arrogant since the team HE won a superbowl with had just beaten Nedw Englan ?
  • i would never talk to media if I was a coach. period!
  • I had a girlfriend named Shannon, she talked just like him---WHEN SHE HAD MY D*** IN HER MOUTH!!!!
  • Why do the lazy blacks hate the Pats?
  • Your name fits you. This has nothing to do with race. I'm from Boston and I can tell you some of these fans can be extremely nasty when we lose. There are a lot of progressive blacks, whites, latinos, and others who dislike the Patriots. There are also a lot of dead-beat whites who either love them or hate them.
  • Thannon thimpwy thated that he would have liked to thpeak wiff Mr Bewechick and tell him if given another chance he would never have stuck his toungue on that frozen swing set in third grade.
  • sucks4ever what a moron typical response from a douche redsox fan

  • sharpe has it ever occurred to that other than the mandated press meeting, mo one is entitled to a one on one interview after the game? the choice of whether to stand there and answer the dunbest of dumb questions is the choice of the person having to endure the stupidity of the questioner! but then who knows he might have made more sense than your little tirade. the media for too long has hiden behind the addage we ask what the fan wants to know .... which is pure BS ... the fact that your minion had no face time ( air time ) is the real problem and thats the real problem .. for some reason the media believes since they milk sponsors for money and then pay for the rights to broadcast ( at a fee mind you ) that everyone should be at your beck an call. I say less pre and post game show and let us the fans decide how the game was played . I may not have played in the NFL but i know a well played game vrs a poorly played game and dont need the likes of you to tell me what i just saw.
  • Shannon, just stick to being an analyst.
It seems you have a little jealousy in your tone. How many superbowls have you been to? No one likes to listen to an analyst who is one sided. You and Phil Simms make a great team. When he does a
Patriots game, he never says anything positive about the team. take a lesson from your counterparts. You may learn something

  • It must be very difficult to be not only the LOSER coach of a losing team, but an ungracious, arrogant, egotistical cowardly cheater who can only gloat when my team is winning by whatever means. It is very hard to be a person of integrity and maybe CLASS who acts this way both publicly and in private. Just Sayin.....
  • And remember this is the same guy that video taped other teams practices in the SPY GATE case. So there you have it. A sore loser and a cheater in the game of PRO football. Nobody likes to lose but it's life so he needs to get over it. The Pats have been victorious for years and that is almost impossible to do now in Pro football with the free agency. This is the price of sports, nobody wins all the time. It's impossible and it would be boring and create total brats in the game of sports.
  • What a loser!! Really, Chic? Your husband's team loses and you take your childish frustrations out on the winning team's players? As if that helps your team suddenly get in the Super Bowl!! Feel sorry for Wes Welker. And its so funny how tough some folks get on a blog!! This chic is a loser and so is anyone supporting her lame azz (internet tough-guys)...
  • Neil ,defensive, about(one word)etc.... this is our future?I pity the fool.
  • I'M glad that Belicheat lost.
  • Do we really need to here another coach say "they made the plays and we didn't" or "I'm proud of my team. They fought their hearts outs" I never watch those idiot comments because you know it's all Coach Speak. Free country. His season is over so move on.
  • Rays they cheat look at the first game they play the pats , that rays field gold kicker miss the field gold at the end of the game you can see he did the pats got rip off that day, if it wasn't for that game the rays would have not be in the play offs at all because the pats would have won that one that game as for the rays fans when they get beat and lose the super bowl the rays and there fan's will cry like a baby
  • What a chump.... I get that he may not have had anything "earth-shattering" to say, but when you are the guy who is likely to go down as the orchestrator of one of the best teams in NFL history and have no problem accepting all of the acculades that come with that, you should also allow the public to see you when things don't go your way. It's a great teaching moment for the young fans, and unfortunately all they are learning from him is to pout when things don't turn out the way they wanted them to. This doesn't really suprise me though. I remember seeing the video of him dropping the f-bombin a casual conversation with his pre-teen son after introducing him to another coach. "F... that guy" he says to his young son. What a classless jerk!
  • I hope the sore loser get fined by the NFL.
  • Tom Brady is a Pu**y, Anytime he gets hurried or sacked he plays like Sh*t. Any quarterback in the NFL could play like him given the time he has to make a pass without any pressure.
I'm glad they lost it just goes to show he can start but not finish.
Though I don't think he will lose any money or sleep over it.
  • Shannon who? I cannot stand to listen to him. I switch channels EVERY time he is making commentary.
  • Nobody really gives a rats ass what a coach has to say after any game. Unless of course they come out ranting and raving like crazy people. Belichick's voice alone is my favorite reason for skipping his comments. The Pats played like crap and if anyone wants to hear Belichick's barely audible words that never tells anyone anything at all ever, it's time to get a real life.
  • SHOW ME A GOOD LOSER,, AND I,LL SHOW YOU A LOSER ,,,,RIGHT SHANNON????LOL,,,YOU LOSER
  • Actually, he's a SB Champion and one of the best Tight Ends to play the game.
  • Bilichick's "no show" after the game reflects badly on him. He loves the camera when they are winning, but acts like jerk when they lose. I guess this is how young men watching the games think you should act?
  • Either you likie BB or not. I can't see where anyone accept the media would route against the Patriots and BB just because he refuses to talk to the media. Shannon has a right to be "personally" upset because the sports sensationalized media he is now apart of needs guys like BB to answer their difficult questions and give them soundbytes and stuff to write and talk about. "WE" lost, what else are you looking for when you interview the head coach of the losing team? Get over it, every news outlet ?? has gone from reporting to ratings based pandering, is it entertaining? sure. But I am not going to feel sorry for Sharp or ANYONE of them when a coach or player choses to not confront them.
  • Grow up and show some sportsmanship! As far as rooting against the Patriots....I don't need Bill to dislike them!
