While it is not the first time someone has inadvertently left something behind in an airport restroom, the discovery of a misplaced Super Bowl ring by an airport employee at the Mineta San Jose International Airport probably was the most “blingy” and valuable of items.

Arra Daquina, an employee at a Starbucks outpost in the airport’s baggage claim area, happened upon the ring of a San Francisco 49ers player from the team’s Super Bowl XIX victory over the Miami Dolphins in 1984.

The identity of the owner of the ring was easily discovered as the name John Macaulay, the center on the 1984 49ers team, was engraved on the side of it.

Saying, “I didn’t know what it was, but it was big and heavy,” Daquina turned the ring over to Denny Pfaff, a volunteer at one of the airport’s information booths.

Ultimately, Macaulay, now a doctor and a tech professional, came looking for it and the ring was returned to its rightful owner.

Macaulay, according to San Jose Mercury News report, said he was amazed at how quickly the ring was back in his possession.

Even though Macaulay’s ordeal did have a happy ending, let this be a lesson to everyone: Don’t leave your Super Bowl ring in an airport bathroom. If you have one, that is. I guess the lesson applies to other, less valuable stuff as well.

  • That's where Putin left it.
  • really wouldnt hurt to be given tickets to the next SUPERBOWL.
  • Did Mr. John Macaulay at least gave some kind of reward to Daquina? I sure hope so.
  • Why does it matter? The ring was returned to it's owner. Why does there always have to be a reward for doing the right thing?
  • I left my 24k gold diamond encrusted toilet in that same bathroom. Never did get it back. Heard it's in Saudi Arabia now.
  • Why reward people for doing the right thing? Doing the right thing and having a clear conscience for doing so are reward enough. Why does everyone need a reward for everything?
  • It's not a reward it's a tolken of appreciation. That ring is prabably worth at least $25,000+, plus sentimental value. A lot of people would have kept it. You wouldn't want her to regret "doing the right thing".
  • Good thing Vladimir Putin didn't find it.
