Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens made an appearance on the Ben & Skin show on KESN-FM 103.3 per the Dallas Morning News.  He was asked what people should expect from him playing for the Allen Wranglers in the Indoor Football League.

“I’m gonna have fun with it. I’m using this as a platform to keep myself in shape. The business end of it is something that intrigued me, being a co-owner with the team. This is me transitioning to life after football. I feel I’m physically fit and can play at a productive level to where I can play a couple of more years in the National Football League. That’s what I’m pushing for. I’m not going to give up hope just because I’m 38 and just had a knee injury."

"I think a lot of why I probably didn’t play this year, everybody keeps talking about the ‘character’ issues. The last two or three years relatively I was quiet, knowing that everybody was saying that I had a character issue, I’m disruptive, there’s a lot of hype that comes with me, they’re saying I’m a distraction here and there. That’s all hearsay. If you ask a bunch of my teammates, a lot of it is basically blown out of proportion, the media making me into a fall guy."

"Overall, will I ever admit that I was a bad teammate? Never. I wasn’t a bad teammate. Was I disruptive. No I wasn’t disruptive. I feel like I have a lot of football left and I’m looking forward to getting back to playing. I think the thing … I didn’t get picked up was that a lot of general managers bought into the fact that the media thinks that I’m this bad guy, this rebel guy, this disruptive guy that divides and messes up team’s chemistry. They won’t allow me to turn over a new leaf. They won’t allow me to be a better person."

"Anytime anything is brought up about me, they keep talking about things that happened five, six, seven years ago. Why don’t I get a pass? I’ve kind of fallen into that villain category and I can’t get out of that box.”

I do agree wth Owens that the incidents that he was involved in during his career were likely blown out of proportion, but there’s a reason they occurred and he is that reason.  In the end I don’t feel sorry for him and feel like he made his bed and it’s time for him to lay in it.

  • Really? Is T.O. serious? The man throws how many QB's under the bus (Garcia, McNabb), signs a free agent contract and a year into it wants MORE money? Teams like SF, Philly, Dallas had him and had no issue ridding themselves of this "talent". Buffalo/Cincy had no room for him either. Oh, but its all the "media"s fault.   • T.O. never asked the Eagles for more money. He asked them to honor the contract that he signed. They were not going to honor the final year of his contract because it called for a large sum of money. Basically they were going to use him for 2 years and then dump him when it came time to pay up.

  • T.O does get a bad rap. He emboddies all virtures we say we want in an athlete. He works hard, he practices hard and he plays hard and he never got into off the field trouble. So what he is a bit of a DIVA, thats reciever thing, he cathes touch downs. Look at every teams record after he left S.F. Philly, Dallas none these teams were better after he left, the only exception would be this past years Bengals but a knee injury derailed a Pro Bowl season last year. Name a teamate that has come out aginst him. Look at all the relevent career receiving stats, he is top five in all of them and only Jerry Rice has more TD's. Dislike him and call him what you want at the end of the day you ALL will call him Hall Of Famer!

He worked harder than anyone else teams where he played. T.O. can be compared to Kobe Byrant.   • You really have to ask who Jason Witten is. A division one player who played in the SEC. Go and do some research before you open your trap. T. O. played at UTC a much smaller division 1 school and he really didn't do anything in college. Witten was drafted in the 3rd rd 69 pick overall in 2003. T.O. was drafted in 1996 also in the 3rd rd but 89 overall. You ask any of the 32 G.M.'s who they'd want on there team and you'd get a Witten over T.O. 100%. There are reason as to why no team picked up Owens this year and he ended up sitting. No G.M or owner wants to see a reciever going off on there QB during the game. T.O wore out his welcome in the NFL and he won't be getting anymore big paydays. The best think that he can do is retire and go away. God help us if he gets into the HOF. That is one speech that I'll be sure to mute the T.V.

  • it's amazing how the media can make or break a career, T.O.is one of the best recievers to play the game but all everyone wants to remember is he time in philly and cowboys. all he's every did was ask/talk about his QB to get them to prepare for the game like he did. Ask yourself, at your job if you gave 110% everyday and your co-workers only put in 75% would you fuss about it or go on like everything is fine? looking at the ones he talked about haven't done nothing; one can't win (cowboy killer),one face the truth now talks about the game and the other can't keep a starting job!

  • You are partially right. T.O. had the skills of the best receivers in the game. The problem is, it takes more than skills if you are a cancer to the team. Five teams took a chance on his skills and five teams came to the decision that in spite of his talent he wasn't worth it. And we are talking about some well run programs here. There were some teams in desperate need of receivers this year, but not one of them wanted to add his skills AND attitude to the mix. Hmmmmmm

  • if you were a GM and had the nerve to sign T.O. if you had any sense you would be on pins and needles singing what have I done to myself. I would bet the farm that T.O.s attitude change would not last 6 games unless he has caught 15 TDs and 50 passes. a couple of bad games and he is off...

    a great team mate will seek to hold a team together and encourage them even in bad times... this is why a GM will keep a vet on the way out for an extra couple of seasons... to add to the mix... T.O. as good of an athlete as he was is poison for team chemistry...

    The above paragraph seals the deal for me on T.O. once again. Talent he was one of the best. But he was given so many chances. He should have gotten his arse kicked a few times on his own sideline. He is still not dealing with reality and unfortunately people are still telling him he was okay to be an arse. he is paying for that now...
