Wes Welker has always been a bit of prankster, even if that side of him was suffocated a bit during his tenure in New England. That side of him may have peaked in high school, though. Welker, who impressed with nine catches and two touchdowns in his debut with the Denver Broncos, joined the NFL Network’s NFL Total Access on Tuesday night to talk about the Broncos eye-opening Week 1 win. During the interview, Welker was also asked some more lighthearted questions intended to get the often stone-faced receiver to crack a smile. So, host Dan Hellie asked Welker about dressing up as pop star Britney Spears during a pep rally at Heritage Hall High School in Oklahoma City, Okla. Welker, who was a football star at the school from 1996-2000, couldn’t help but smile at the question, even admitting to prank — albeit reluctantly. “Gosh, I’d love to say false there, but I did,” Welker said with a half-smile. “I’d love to say false, but they have me on video. I’ve already bought them off, so you won’t be seeing that anytime soon.” You might not see that video, but if you can watch Welker’s entire NFL Network interview, click here. Sanchez absolutely believes he can win Eagles starting gig

As Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach Chip Kelly announced last week, there will be a quarterback competition in Philly which will include a battle between Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez and even Tim Tebow. However, the last quarterback to officially play in the lead role was Sanchez who started for the Eagles’ last eight games in 2014. Probably feeling somewhat territorial, Sanchez...

Report: Michael Bennett wants Seahawks to trade him

This next story is a nice reminder that there’s a reason why we hear player rumors and report on them. Many of them turn out not to be true, but sometimes where there’s smoke there’s fire. A few weeks ago we passed along a report that Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett wanted to be traded to Dan Quinn’s Atlanta Falcons. That one was incorrect and the team denied...

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael on Tuesday that he believes the two sides...

Report: NFL could punish Brady, ball boys in wake of report

The Ted Wells report into DeflateGate could result in punishment for the New England Patriots and possibly quarterback Tom Brady.   But that’s not all. After Wells’ report was released Wednesday, the NFL is considering discipline for Brady, locker room attendant Jim McNally and equipment assistant John Jastremski, a source close to the investigation told ESPN’s...

Bursting the NFL playoff expansion bubble

Hey, I have an idea. Let’s invite every NFL team into the playoffs! Sure. Why not? Talk about television revenue! So what if the Super Bowl falls on Mother’s Day? OK, that’s exaggeration for effect. But when Roger Goodell and the league start talking like expanding the postseason is only a matter of time, one must stop and consider if they care more about making money or...
