After being a traded to the Broncos, Maroney was a bust. He was an underachiever in New England as well. It makes you wonder if he has a future in the NFL.

This particular incident doesn’t seem as bad as the headlines are making it out to be, but still not a good a look on Maroney’s part.

The 25-year-old Denver Broncos running back is being held on unlawful weapons charges and drug charges according to KMOV News 4 in St. Louis. The station confirmed that Maroney and three other men were in a vehicle pulled over by St. Louis police officers late Monday night.

According to KUSA Ch. 9 news in Denver, Jane Higgins, a publicist for Maroney, says the former Patriots back was on his way to a concert in his hometown Monday night when he was pulled over by a police officer.

Higgins says Maroney told the officer he did not know anything about the other vehicle. The officer asked to search Maroney’s car and found a gun. Maroney was taken into custody.

Maroney claims that he has a license for the gun and was released without any official charges. The concert was the Rick Ross and Waka Flocka concert in Saint Louis. Not the place you want to just have a gun just hanging around, but I digress.

If it everything checks out, he should be cleared, but the question begs will any NFL team think he is worth the trouble in 2011.
