Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports reports that sources have informed him that ”multiple teams” have contacted the New York Jets at the NFL Combine regarding CB Darrelle Revis‘ availability.
Cole mentions that Jets’ management “was all ears” in regards to a potential a deal.
The Jets reportedly haven’t had any discussions with Revis’ representatives in recent weeks, which could be an indication that they’re leaning towards a trade, rather than a long-term extension.
Revis would reportedly like to finish his career with Jets, but if they feel that they’re unable to work a long-term extension into their finances, it makes sense for them to try to recoup as much value as possible for him.
Given that Revis is believed to be targeting a similar deal to that of Mario Williams, it’s not going to be easy to complete a trade. Any team interested in meeting the Jets asking price would have to require that Revis agree to a long-term contract as a part of the deal.
There’s been talk that Revis could net New York as much as first-round pick, but it seems likely that teams would offer a package that included a mid-round pick in return for Revis before discussing the inclusion of a first-rounder.
I’m sure we’ll hear more regarding the topic in the coming months.
