With just a few days to go before the opener, we check back in with everyone's favorite imprecise measurement of Donovan McNabb's standing with the Eagles, the McNabb-O-Meter! And how has the preseason affected the device?
No change. Despite the forces conspiring around him- the looming presence of Kevin Kolb, the addition of Mike Vick and his constant shuffling in and out of the huddle- McNabb is still clearly the Eagles' best and most likely option at quarterback, now and next season.
The acquisition of Vick in particular seemed like it could only negatively impact McNabb's future with the club, but so far we've learned two things: 1) he'll be a gimmick this season, shuffling on and off maybe a few times per game, and 2) not surprisingly, he has a long way to go before he's ready to play quarterback again, at least on a good team.
At this point, what will most be responsible for moving the McNabb-O-Meter will be his play on the field. Will it be another solid, dare we say Pro Bowl season for Donovan that slowly pushes it into the green, a slow descent into despair sliding him toward another franchise, or will the meter fluctuate wildly from week to week with erratic passes and a mixed bag of wins, losses, and ties?

This seaseason everyone will finally see that T.O. was not the problem in Philly. McNabb does not want to share the spotlite and if Vick shines this year McNabb will start his whinning again. He already hinted at in the preseason saying that he could not get into a rhythm sharing snaps with Vick. McNabb is a wolf in sheeps clothing.
