NEW ORLEANS - JANUARY 13: Punter Steve Weatherford #7 of the New Orleans Saints runs for a first down after his punt attempt was broken up by the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFC divisional playoff game at the Superdome on January 13, 2007 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Steve Weatherford set a Super Bowl record Sunday night by placing 3 punts inside the Patriots’ 10 yard line. it’s not his fault one of those placements inspired the Pats to drive 96 yards for a score.

Weatherford was a great offseason pickup from the Jets. He has bounced around the league, but the Giants felt good about his ability to not kick directly to small, exciting punt returners at the end of games. He’s quirky and a nice guy who gives signed Giants memorabilia for auction and old Giants shoes to kids to help his troubled hometown of Terre Haute, Ind.

Weatherford melted our hearts by screaming “We’re going to the ******* Super Bowl!!” in slow motion after holding the overtime field goal that Lawrence Tynes kicked to send the Giants to Indy. He likes to do semi-nude splits with his ridiculously sculpted bod.

He’s a punter many of us can identify with and should adopt as the TVF Punter Mascot. He was quite simply, the best punter on the field Sunday, and is a Super Bowl champion.

Let’s rock.
