The NFL fined Ndamukong Suh $100000 for his low block on Minnesota Vikings center John Sullivan he said today. Suh was notified by Merton Hanks of the NFL. Fox Sports was first to raise the possibility of a $100000 fine. Suh already has been fined five times in his NFL career with the amounts progressing from $7500 for roughing quarterback Jake Delhomme as a rookie to $30000 for kicking QB Matt Schaub in the groin last Thanksgiving. Suh’s six-figure fine is among the largest in NFL history. James Harrison was fined $75000 for a hit on a defenseless receiver last fall and several other players including Dunta Robinson and Brandon Meriweather were fined $50000 last year. New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick was fined $500000 for his role in the 2007 “spygate” scandal and Ray Lewis was fined $250000 for lying to police after a double murder in 2000. Suh was called for a personal foul when he dived at Sullivan’s knees during DeAndre Levy’s interception return in the second quarter of the Lions’ season-opening 34-24 victory. The penalty nullified a touchdown. An NFL official told the Free Press on Monday that the league was considering suspending Suh because he is a repeat offender. If Suh were suspended he would have lost one game check — $37058 — for every game he missed.
