If the PATRIOTS are smart, they will keep WES WALKER, and give him whatever he wants to keep HIM.
New England Patriots WR Wes Welker is an impending free agent but it doesn’t appear as if he is going to be allowed to hit the open market. Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe states that he knows that the New England Patriots are going to place the franchise tag on the veteran receiver.
Appearing on the Armando and Perkins radio show, Bedard stated, “He’s going to be tagged, that I know for pretty much certain. If they don’t, he’s going to sign with the Jets and they’re going to to to try and cover him twice a year, or the Dolphins, they want him back. I don’t see why things would change now, but the way it stood before the Super Bowl, they’re going to tag him.”
Welker is wanting to get a long term deal in place and Bedard suggests that he might not take kindly to having the franchise tag placed on him. Bedard hinted that Welker could pull a Logan Mankins and sit out for the first half of the season.
