The New England Patriots are one of the best teams in the NFL and last season they were minutes away from winning another Super Bowl ring. Is it possible that heading into the 2012 NFL football season the Patriots actually look better than they did a year ago? The quick answer is yes.

Before the changes the Patriots were one of only a handful of teams predicted to win the Super Bowl, but after the offseason changes, they have become the odds-on favorite.  The Patriots have one of the highest predicted win totals in the NFL Over/Under preview of all 32 teams, but they might be so good they go under 12 wins. If the Patriots have clinched the best record in football, they may coast at the end of the year to keep their players healthy. This is not normal for Bill

Tom Brady Will Have More Targets in 2012

Belichick but last year Rob Gronkowski was gimpy for the big game and everyone remembers the Wes Welker injury in an unimportant game against Houston.

Online sportsbooks such as Just Bet, have the Patriots as the obvious favorites (-400) to win a mediocre AFC East, and they also have them as the favorite to win the AFC (+325-to-1). When it comes to Super bowl XLVII, the Patriots are one of the favorites to win another ring. Just bet has the Patriots at 6-to-1, to add another ring to their collection and this is all due to the many additions the team has made in the offseason.

Tom Brady leads an explosive offense that looked great with Wes Welker and the emergence of Gronkowski at tight end, but they improved. They brought back offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and his high-octane offense attracted some very good free agents as Jabar Gaffney and Brandon Lloyd followed him to the team. The additions of these two wide outs will give the Patriots the deep threat they were missing when they traded Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings. Lloyd has impressed early in camp and should have an outstanding year, but the concern for the Patriots is on the defensive side of the ball.

The Patriots turned to the draft to help on defense and they hit a home run. Belechick used the draft to grab some great defensive players and traded him to make sure he got the players he wanted.

Chandler Jones and Dont’a Hightower are two players that will make an immediate impact on defense and could start on day one. Jake Bequette and Alfonzo Dennard were great picks late and overnight the Patriots defense looked like it would be in the running for the most improved defense.

The Patriots schedule looks very nice, if the teams play as poorly as they did last year. However the NFL changes drastically from one year to the next and teams are always working to improve. The Patriots have a big letdown game in week six against the Seattle Seahawks. The Pats will be fresh off the game against Peyton Manning and the Broncos and they will have a game against the New York Jets on deck.  Even if the Patriots lose that game my prediction will be an 11-5 season and another trip to the playoffs for the New England Patriots.
