FOXBORO, MA - JANUARY 10: Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots looks on during warm ups against the Baltimore Ravens during the 2010 AFC wild-card playoff game at Gillette Stadium on January 10, 2010 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. (Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images)
It was game of the year of the decade of the football season. The battle between the top two teams in the AFC on Monday Night Football as the playoff races were heating up. It was supposed to be an epic duel of two teams, one being the prennial favorite and the other trying to fight it’s way into the big boy’s club and be contenders. The “epic duel” lasted for about half a quarter before Tom Brady and the New England Patriots told the Houston Texans to step off. Led by Brady and the Patriots’ punishing defense, the New England Patriots won by the final of 42-14 in front of their home-crowd. At no point did this game feel close. The Patriots marched up and down the field early on the Houston Texans vaunted defense. Then, when the offense went cold, the defense stepped up, tackling well and stopping the Texans on two fourth down plays in the second quarter. The Patriots had not had a signature win all season long, and finally the team put together a 60 minute effort against one of the best teams in the league. In fact, it could be argued that it is the first time they have done that in numerous years. The Patriots use to beat-up whoever but in recent years they have struggled in the big games against the big teams. They had their best effort of the year tonight and possibly in years. This is a balanced team with an explosive offense and quickly improving defense that will be dangerous come January. More from this game in the week to come, for now let’s rest if we can. The Patriots are back as a favorite in the AFC and now have the bulls-eye on their back. I trust they will handle it well.
