Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots coaching staff gave the Patriots an unexpected "day off" on the final day of organized team activities today. “You’ll have to ask Bill (as to why)… maybe he was so mad that we’ve been doing so poorly, he wanted to get us out of here,” joked linebacker Bobby Carpenter. “It was pretty exciting. I think a lot of guys were ready to get out of here.” Patriots.com reported mandatory position meetings were still scheduled during the afternoon, but that yesterday's action was most likely the last until training camp in July. Bill Belichick in mid season form at start of mini camp

Bill Belichick addressed the media before the first day of mandatory mini camp. In his usual fashion, he glossed over the fluff and brushed aside any distractions. When asked about the recent release of Chad Ochocinco, he stated: "Well, I don't know. The bottom line is that's in the past; we're focused on today and trying to go out there and think about when we...

All side bets off: there are no “unwrittens” in Bill Belichick’s book

Why anyone would be surprised is beyond us, but rumor has it that the New York Giants and head coach Tom Coughlin are none too pleased with Bill Belichick plucking tight end Jake Ballard off the waiver wire. If Coughlin thought he’d get a pass, he could ask a member of Belichick’s current staff, Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels. McDaniels had a player he wanted to slide...

Belichick cancels last day of practice

The New England Patriots started their summer a day early. Coach Bill Belichick canceled the final day of practice at the team's minicamp on Thursday. It was a surprise to the players. The team has five weeks until the start of training camp. Veterans have been reminding the younger players that it's not a vacation. They need to show up in good shape. The Patriots received...

Bill Belichick May Be Greatest Giants Coach After Helping New York Win Two Super Bowls

The New York Giants have certainly had plenty of personalities on their coaching staffs, and success hasn't trailed too far behind. Bill Parcells took the Giants to new heights in his time there, and many of the assistants and coordinators he had under him have gone on to head coaching jobs elsewhere. One of those men was Bill Belichick. Now the New England Patriots coach, Belichick...

Bill Belichick and His Ornery Personality Profess Fondness For Ornery Tony La Russa

I would appear that footballs most ornery head coach has a fondness for baseball's most ornery (retired) manager. As part of the Patriots minicamp, Bill Belichick gave a press conference with the assembled media, mostly answering questions about the team's outdoor workouts, newly acquired tight end Jake Ballard, and the offseason of runninb back Shane Vereen. However, at...

Bill Belichick: AFC Championship rings ‘bittersweet’

Just as Tom Brady did on Wednesday, head coach Bill Belichick, in his own way, acknowledged last season’s close-but-no-cigar outcome is simply not good enough. One day after Patriots players and staffers received their AFC Championship rings, Belichick was asked for his thoughts regarding the bling. “Whatever it was last year, it was. So it’s time to move on,” Belichick said...

Bill Belichick Refutes Breaking 'Unwritten Rules' in Signing Jake Ballard Away From Giants

Bill Belichick was able to exact little bit of revenge on the New York Giants for their Super Bowl victory, on Tuesday. But the move left a sour taste in the mouth of Giants head coach Tom Coughlin on Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots claimed recently jettisoned Giants tight end Jake Balled off waivers on Tuesday, after the Giants let go of the injured tight end. Ballard is coming...

Shrewd move by New England Patriots picking up TE Jake Ballard

The New England Patriots continue to show why they are one of the best organizations in the NFL. The New York Giants waived tight end Jake Ballard in hopes that no one would claim him. They wanted to bring him back by putting him on their Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. But the Patriots claimed Ballard off waivers and now own the tight end’s rights which puts them in a...

Bill Belichick talks Patriots running backs, unwritten rules

Bill Belichick met the media today, and it felt like mid season already, with long, drawn out diatribes, and the usual, curt, short "you get nothing" answers There were plenty of topics covered, from the weather, Jake Ballard, and the running back situation in Foxboro. The Hoodie even got in a little baseballThe Jake Balard situation was really a non-story, at least according...

Patriots claim TE who may not be able to play again

Either this was an incredibly shrewd move by the New England Patriots, or it was just Bill Belichick trying to stick it to the team that beat him, again, in the Super Bowl. Tight end Jake Ballard was waived by the World Champion New York Football Giants earlier this week, and he was expected to [...]
