The New England Patriots had seven picks in this year's NFL Draft and Bill Belichick used three of his seven picks on Rutgers Scarlet Knights players. Belichick added a fourth when he signed undrafted free agent cornerback Brandon Jones after the draft had ended. Why, though, did Bill Belichick invest so much of his draft on players from a program that only went 9-4 in a relatively weak Big East conference? The answer is quite simply, loyalty. Bill Belichick and former coach and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano have a pretty great working relationship. It all goes back to when Belichick's son, Stephen, attended Rutgers. Stephen was a member of the Rutgers lacrosse team and Belichick frequented the campus on a regular basis. Stephen also served as a long snapper for the Scarlet Knights when he was a senior at Rutgers. Also, Schiano spent a lot of time at Patriots practices in the past during his tenure at Rutgers.
