One of the points of emphasis for the Lions has been to create more mayhem on defense. And by mayhem they mean turnovers game-changing plays. They drafted a raw but extremely long and athletic defensive end with the fifth overall pick with the idea that he could facilitate some more mayhem. How do you like Ziggy Ansah so far? On the Jets’ fourth play from scrimmage in the Lions’ 26-17 exhibition victory at Ford Field Friday night Ansah picked off a Mark Sanchez pass at the 14-yard line and ran it into the end zone. "Me and Israel Idonije were saying 'That's a helluva way to come' " said Ndamukong Suh. "But it's not going to stop there. He's got great natural talent and he's going to continue to grow and learn." Ansah has been a man of few words since training camp started but he was all smiles Friday night. "When I rush I try to look at the quarterback to see where his eyes are going and how deep he's setting" he said. "When he threw it I jumped and I caught it. But then I was like 'Oh wait the ball is in my hands. I've got to go that way.' " Just a few minutes into the exhibition season and the Lions had already scored one more defensive touchdown than they did all of last season. "We've always wanted to be a defense that’s disruptive and one that gets the ball back for our offense" Suh said. "It's great when you get turnovers let alone three and outs and get the ball to our offense. Ziggy made a great play. Glover (Quin) almost got another one. That's how we want to be aggressive and make plays." In the third quarter another long-armed rookie defensive end forced a turnover. Devin Taylor bull-rushed the tackle and reached around the back of reserve quarterback Greg McElroy sacked him and stripped the ball. "That's something we've talked about since the beginning of the offseason" coach Jim Schwartz said. "We knew we had to protect the ball better but more than anything we needed to create some turnovers. We got one on the first series Devin made a nice play and we had a couple more opportunities where we could have made plays." Taylor's sack-fumble led to probably the second-most crowd-pleasing moment of the night — a 49-yard field goal by Norwegian kicker Havard Rugland who booted it low with more than enough length.
