Ben Watson- The former New England Patriot and Cleveland Brown signed with the New Orleans Saints this past offseason. Though his signing didn’t get much hype or attention, Watson may prove to be very important. Watson brings more skill and athleticism to the tight end position which already features the best tight end in the game. The pairing of Watson and Jimmy Graham gives the Saints the best tight end combination in the league. Watson’s pass catching ability, route running, and run blocking will allow the Saints to be more flexible in their formations and keep the defense even more off balanced. Pierre Thomas Charles Brown-Can this guy stay healthy? This is what the Saints coaching staff is hoping for as they try to address the left tackle position. Everyone knows the importance of the position, which is why the Saints want to make sure they have the best guy out there. The times that Brown has stayed on the field he has been more than serviceable. His experience in the system and his overall talent make him the ideal starter this season. Terron Armstead is a nice product, but is not ready to play this season. Chances are if Brown can stay healthy, he will hold off Armstead and start at left tackle. However, as he has shown throughout this career, staying healthy is a big if and no guarantee. Pierre Thomas-The Saints need to figure out who is going to run the ball for them this year. The consensus seems to believe that this is the year that Mark Ingram takes the job. However, it really isn’t that simple. Though Ingram has the Heisman pedigree and first round billing, Thomas has all the production. Thomas, at 28 years old, still has a lot left in the tank and has averaged 4.8 yards a carry for his career; in addition, he provides flexibility with his pass catching ability which keeps defenses guessing. Now, Ingram is going to get every opportunity to prove himself worthy of carry the load, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Saints ultimately lean on ole reliable Pierre Thomas if Ingram doesn’t take the job outright.
