New Orleans Saints To Interview Their QB Coach Ronald Curry For Offensive Coordinator Spot

New Orleans Saints quarterback coach Ronald Curry has interviewed for the team's vacant offensive coordinator position, according to Luke Johnson of Nola.com. Curry is one of the few remaining holdovers on the offensive staff after several moves last week.

Pete Carmichael was removed as offensive coordinator after 18 years on the staff. Running Back coach Joel Thomas departed to accept the same position with the New York Giants, while the contracts of WR coach Kodi Burns and senior offensive assistant Bob Bicknell were also terminated.

Since those moves, the Saints have set up interviews with Bengals QB coach Dan Pitcher, Rams QB coach Zac Robinson, Texans QB coach Jerrod Johnson, former Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak, and 49ers QB coach Brian Griese. Only Waldron is out of play, having accepted a position with the Chicago Bears on Monday.

Curry, 44, has been on the New Orleans staff since 2016. He was first brought in as a general offensive assistant, then promoted to WR coach in 2018. Since 2021, Curry has been the team's quarterback coach. Prior to joining the Saints, he was an assistant with the San Francisco 49ers in 2014 and 2015.

A quarterback at North Carolina, Curry was a seventh-round choice by the Oakland Raiders in the 2002 NFL Draft and was converted to a wide receiver. Over a seven year NFL career, all with the Raiders, Curry had 193 receptions for 2,347 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Saints ranked 14th in total yardage and ninth in points scored last season. They were 11th in passing production, but only 21st in rushing yardage. Ten-year veteran QB Derek Carr was in his first season with the team.

Carr and the entire offense struggled early. Over the last stretch of the year, New Orleans had one of the league's more productive offenses. The Saints averaged 28.8 points over their last six games and were far more efficient in the red zone.

Curry was promoted to the Saints quarterback coach in 2021, the year after the retirement of QB Drew Brees. In the 51 games since Brees retired, New Orleans has started six different quarterbacks.
