New York Giants 2024 NFL Schedule: Release date, opponents, biggest games, and predictions
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants' offseason is in full swing now that the NFL Draft and free agency are behind us. The next few months will be all about getting the team's 90-man roster in the best spot ahead of Week 1. But what can Giants fans be looking forward to in the coming weeks and beyond?

The NFL's schedule release is just right around the corner! We already know the Giants' 2024 opponents, but we'll find out the when and where they play here very soon!

So, let's dive into the upcoming 2024 NFL schedule release, opponents, biggest games, predictions, and more!

Giants Schedule Release Date

The NFL teased during the draft that schedules will be released in May, but they still haven't given us the exact date. If we look back on the last couple of years of schedule releases it's usually just before the midpoint of May. In fact, it's been the second Thursday in May two years in a row now. If that holds true this year we can expect the NFL schedule release as early as May 9th!

Once that officially comes out, we will update this page here with the complete official Giants 2024 schedule.

Home and Away Opponents

Games played at MetLife Stadium: Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings

Away games: Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks

Biggest Games on the Giants 2024 Schedule

Every divisional game: The Cowboys and Eagles both won at least 11 games last season. The Commanders just drafted a game-changing first round pick. There's absolutely no bandwidth for excess divisional losses in the NFC East this year (or ever).

Giants vs Vikings: The Vikings finished 7-10 last season, but they just drafted first round quarterback, J.J. McCarthy. They'll be a prime candidate to compete for a final playoff spot with the Giants this year. And perhaps more importantly, if the Giants struggle to defeat the quarterback they could have selected to replace Daniel Jones that could spell bad news for general manager Joe Schoen.

Giants at Seahawks: If the Giants are going to have any hope in making the playoffs their conference record needs to be strong. They should matchup well with the mostly terrible NFC South teams on their schedule, but if they can pull off an upset at the Seahawks that would go a long way towards a playoff berth. The Seahawks struggle protecting Geno Smith and the Giants should have a strong pass rush. It's a great opportunity to snag an extra conference win that they won't be expected to handle.

Predicting Primetime Matchups and Week 1/Week 18 Opponents

Which games will be primetime viewing?

Between Thursday Night Football, the Black Friday game, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Sunday Night Football, and Monday Night Football there are plenty of opportunities for Giants primetime games this year. Playing the NFC East usually nets them a handful of nationally televised games, so here are the most likely four games that could feature the Giants in a primetime slot:

  • First Game vs Dallas Cowboys - The Giants and Cowboys have faced off in a primetime evening slot eight times in the last ten years. It's typically an early season matchup, and that likely won't change now. The early season matchup ensures both teams are still "in it" at that point.
  • First Game vs. Philadelphia Eagles - The Giants and Eagles haven't had as many primetime games as the Giants/Cowboys matchup, but they're close. They have met six times in the last decade in an evening slot. It's typically the first time the teams play to ensure maximum interest in both teams.
  • Away against the Steelers - The Steelers will either have "Mr. Unlimited" (Russell Wilson) or the ever dynamic and controversial Justin Fields starting at quarterback and they're one of the biggest brands in the sport. This is almost a lock to be a primetime game unless both teams turn out to be bad and they're flexed out later in the year.
  • Home against the Vikings - This has the potential to be a hugely impactful wild card playoff race matchup. New first round quarterback J.J. McCarthy--who the Giants could have drafted--will have plenty to prove in year one. The intrigue surrounding this game could be significant.

Who are the Week 1 and Week 18 opponents?

The NFL loves to schedule intriguing non-conference games in Week 1. That likely means the Ravens or Bengals get the draw for the first game of the season against the Giants. Both teams will be favored over the Giants, but could get caught sleeping early.

Week 18 is almost always an NFC East opponent. Given that the Commanders are the other unlikely team to win the division the Giants likely draw them in the final week of the season while the Cowboys and Eagles potentially decide playoff seeding with their game.

Strength of Schedule

Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis ranks strength of schedule for all 32 NFL teams every year based off of Vegas' projected win totals for all their opponents in the upcoming season. This makes more sense than simply combining win-loss record from the previous season because rosters are so drastically different year over year.

As of this writing, Sharp has the Giants with the 13th most difficult schedule for the 2024 season. That puts them near the middle of the field overall, but with the second most difficult schedule in the NFC East behind only the Cowboys, as you can see in the image below.

Revenge Games on the Giants 2024 schedule

  • Brian Burns gets to face off against the Panthers in Carolina: This will be the perfect opportunity for Burns to show Carolina they made a big mistake moving off of him this off-season.
  • Bobby Okereke gets to face off against his Colts: The Colts moved off of linebacker Bobby Okereke after 2022 and he followed that up by having his best career season last year. Owning them in person will be a nice cherry on top.
  • Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles: The Giants will face off with their former feature running back twice this fall. Barkley may play with a bit more vigor to take it to the team who moved on from him..

5 Must-watch Matchups

  • Malik Nabers vs. Joey Porter Jr. of Steelers: Joey Porter Jr. shadowed several top wide receivers last season, shutting down almost every single one. Seeing how well Malik Nabers plays when given the full shadow treatment will be appointment viewing.
  • Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux vs. Ikem Ekwonu and Taylor Moton: Thibodeaux and Burns gets to go up against two of the strong offensive tackles in the league. It will be a tough matchup, but a pivotal one to take care of business against the supposedly lowly Panthers.
  • Daniel Jones vs. DaRon Bland and the Cowboys secondary: The Cowboys secondary is absolutely stacked. If Daniel Jones wants to keep his job he'll need to do more than just avoid a complete collapse against one of the most aggressive secondaries in the NFL.
  • Giants very young secondary vs. Ja'Marr Chase and the Bengals offense: Deonte Banks, rookie safety Tyler Nubin, and rookie cornerback Andru Phillips are all highly talented, but extremely inexperienced against stopping top five wide receivers in the NFL.
  • Daniel Jones vs. the Giants offensive line: Last season Daniel Jones took 30 sacks in just six games. Thanks to some new signings and health improvements the Giants line should be improved this year, but if Jones continues taking sacks with a cleaner pocket his days may be numbered in New York.
