Photo Credit ( Jeff Gross/Getty Images) This Tuesday on WFAN radio in New York, New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle questioned his teammates confidence. He said “I really don’t believe that everyone believes that we can win within our locker room. And it’s hard.” He continues with. “There’s guys that haven’t been there before, there’s guys that haven’t been affiliated with how the Giants make comebacks and how we can come back in the games, or how we can overcome adversity” Rolle also made comments of support for coach Tom Coughlin and teammate Justin Tuck. In the same interview Rolle said he believes the Giants can go (12-0) for the rest of the season. Antrel Rolle has been known to share his opinions about his team to the media sometimes. He did this his first year as a New York Giant, when he questioned Tom Coughlin’s rules and rigid ways. Then he learned how the Giants take care of personal issues. The Giants handle locker room problems in house. They don’t like it when players go to the media and air the team’s dirty laundry. Now the big question here is how will the Giants players respond to Rolle’s comments? The veterans who have played for coach Coughlin during his tenure with the Giants are likely to respond positively. They wont let this bother them so much, but how do the young players and new veterans respond. Players who were not there for the last Super Bowl run don’t know how the Giants overcame adversity and won it all. They have to see it for themselves. Hopefully Antrel Rolle’s comments don’t add any friction to a locker room that has to be frustrated with the way things have gone. Regardless of Rolle’s comments the Giants confidence is not to blame for the loss to Kansas City or for any future losses. It is their performance and consistency that is the problem. They had the game close against the Chiefs until the late third quarter when Kansas City pulled away. Then in the fourth Kansas City secured a comfortable lead that the Giants wouldn’t catch up to. The Giants have to learn to play 60 minutes of consistent good football. The Giants seem to lose any ability to stop the opposing teams offense in the second half.  The saying is not how you start but how you finish, and the Giants have not found a way to finish games strong. If the defense can keep the game within reach in the second half, the offense can find a way to score without having to rely on big plays. With Antrel Rolle calling out his teammates with the made comments he made on the radio Tuesday. The hope is that it can be the motivation and turning point for the team. The team needs to rally around this, and go out there and prove they still have confidence in themselves by beating the Eagles. The worst case scenario is that it causes teammates to question each other and turning on each other. When Rolle made his comments, he probably thought that it would serve as a catalyst for the Giants turning things around. Only time will tell if Rolle’s comments spark a better performance from the Giants, or starts problems in the locker room.
