New York Giants Have a Critical Position in Mind for the 2024 NFL Draft Based on Pre-Draft Process
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants have a crucial position in mind for the 2024 NFL Draft. The Giants have many positional needs, but a target can be seen based on their pre-draft process.

Brian Daboll sputtered in season two after an impressive first season as head coach. He hopes to return to relevance, but the NFL Draft will determine much.

Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen have shown some signs on what position they may attack, regardless of the round it may be.

Quarterback visits to the New York Giants

South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler and Oregon’s Bo Nix are visiting New York to round out the Top-30 Pre-Draft visit process about a week before the NFL Draft.

That now makes the sixth quarterback prospect that the Giants have met with, most of which should be selected within the first two rounds.

The Giants have met with Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy at the combine, and have had Top-30 visits with Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., Spencer Rattler, and McCarthy (again). They also attended Rattler’s Pro Day, and did a local visit with Monmouth quarterback Marquez McCray.

Sign for the Giants

According to SI.com, the Giants are not scared to take a quarterback in the upcoming draft. John Mara, co-owner of the Giants, even went as far to say that he would not hinder head coach Brian Daboll and general manager John Mara from making that call.

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll must have been smiling ear to ear when he learned that team co-owner John Mara said he would not stand in the way of Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen drafting a quarterback if they “fall in love with a quarterback and believe that it’s worth pick number six and we’re moving up.”

“I love evaluating quarterbacks,” Daboll told reporters Tuesday at the league meeting. “I love meeting with the quarterbacks. It’s an awesome position to work with and a really fun position to evaluate.”

Daniel “Danny Dimes” Jones

Quarterback Daniel Jones is entering the second season of a four-year, $160 million deal he signed last offseason. He’ll most certainly be on the roster in 2024 since the Giants have to pay him his $36 million in guaranteed salary no matter what in 2024.

Jones has heard the rumors that the Giants may grab a quarterback with the sixth overall pick, but he says it will not affect his mindset.

“[It’s] the same thing with Saquon’s [situation last year],” Jones said on Monday. “The nature of our business. It’s a competitive league, so the best way to handle that is to focus on what I’m doing. Focus on myself, and making sure that I’m healthy and ready to play good football. That’s what I can control.”

The Giants and Jones’s future will become much clearer after the draft concludes.
