With the 2012 NFL Draft less than 2 weeks away, there’s been rumbling going on inside the New York Giants' Draft War Room on who’d  they’ll select.  Based on information from within the Giants' camp, the G-Men are targeting the best player available with their pick in the 1stround. Many resources I have spoken to suggest that the Giants could select a DE or perhaps a RB. Others have told me that an OL or an LB are also possibilities as well. If history teaches us anything, when it comes to the NFL Draft and GM Jerry Reese, there are no sure things and expect the unexpected.

The names I’ve been hearing have been Chandler Jones (DE out of Syracuse), Andre Branch (DE out of Clemson),Lamar Miller (RB out of Miami), Doug Martin (RB out of Boise State), Lavonte David (LB out of Nebraska), Mike Adams (OT out of Ohio State),Peter Konz (C out of Wisconsin), Zach Brown (LB out of North Carolina).  In my previous article regarding the Giants Mock Draft, I had the Giants selecting Mike Adams and with my pick; I had the Giants selecting Doug Martin. According to resources, GM Reese and his scouts have finalized their draft board which has a mixture of DE, RB, OT and LB on top of their board. I have also learned that the Giants would like to bring back Jonathan Goff over Chase Blackburn  and will offer Goff a similar contract (1-year deal with incentives) they gave to Mathias Kiwanuka last season.

Whether or not Goff accepts this offer remains to be seen; however, from what I’ve been told; the Giants would like Goff back in the worst way. Another topic that was brought to my attention is Osi Umenyiora’s contract; which has one year remaining. Sources have told me that GM Jerry Reese will be looking to trade the DE prior to the Draft for additional draft picks in this Draft or future ones. Many fans who have been following the Giants and their upcoming draft; have been seeing many Mock Drafts suggesting that the Giants will draft a TE (Coby Fleener) in the 1stround. Well according to a reliable source, the Giants do not and will not draft a TE in the 1stround for several reasons.

The signing of Martellus Bennett and the fact that the depth of the TE position in this year’s Draft provides the Giants the luxury of waiting until the mid rounds to select a TE. Make no mistake, the Giants will draft a TE, but it will most likely be after the 3rd round.  Despite what I’ve been told, I still feel the Giants will draft a RB (Doug Martin) mostly because in my opinion; he is the best player available and also a need the Giants are lacking. So don’t be surprised if GM Reese selects a pass-rushing DE or a swift RB or perhaps a gifted LB or a steady OL in the 1stround of the 2012 NFL Draft. With a very deep draft, the Giants will select very talented players who will contribute immediately.
