Just when you think the Plaxico Burress to New York Giants speculation is over, General Manager Jerry Reese reaches out and pulls you right back in!

"We keep all those options open. You never say never," Reese told ESPN of a possible Burress return.

Much to his surprise, the 34-year-old Burress remains a free agent. And after a quality campaign in 2011 following a lengthy prison stint, he thought for sure someone would snatch him up by now.

“No doubt about it,” Burress said. “With some of the things I was able to do after being away for two years, I pretty much thought it spoke for itself. But I guess obviously not.”

"Never say never" and "we're leaving all options open" are common phrases uttered by Reese, but Burress back with Big Blue? Surely that would be a "never." Wouldn't it?

The Giants did express an interest in the veteran wide receiver and Super Bowl XLII champion a year ago, offering him a one-year, $1 million deal with incentives. However, Plaxico opted to take a one-year, $3.017 million deal with the New York Jets instead.

Still, as recently as early March, Burress said returning to the Giants is always a "great possibility" and no one seems to want to shut the door on it. Ever. And with his price tag rapidly decreasing, maybe his return is becoming something a little more realistic. Then again, maybe not.

It's no secret that neither Eli Manning nor Tom Coughlin are big supporters of Burress, and depending on the health Hakeem Nicks, the team really doesn't have a need for another receiver. Unless, of course, Ramses Barden is still struggling to get on the field and the team is concerned with the health of Nicks (foot) and Domenick Hixon (knee).

Around and around we go, where we stop … nobody knows.
