When running back Tiki Barber announced his plans to retire during the 2006 NFL season, many fans were left stunned at his timing. He was still at the top of his game and appeared to have several years left ahead of him. However, a poor relationship with head coach Tom Coughlin was more than the Pro Powler cared to handle in his remaining years, so he opted to step away from the game and pursue a career in broadcasting.

Although a bit bitter that he left due to several disagreements with the coach, fans accepted Barber's decision to retire, expressed their gratitude and wished him well. It wasn't until August of 2007, when Barber criticized quarterback Eli Manning's "lack of leadership" on National television, saying his pre-game speeches were "almost comical", that the bridge began to burn.

That bridge was ultimately reduced to ashes over the next several years as Barber then began to criticize former coach Tom Coughlin, who Barber felt tried to "vilify him."

However, while watching highlights of seasons past over the weekend, defensive end Osi Umenyiora decided it's time for the fans to forgive Barber and to simply respect what the man did for the team. He made a simple plea, via Twitter, for Big Blue faithful to let bygones be bygones.

"Watching a highlight video from Giants 2005 season. Tiki Barber was ridiculous. Giants fans please forgive that man. No more boo's. #legend," Umenyiora tweeted.

While fans will acknowledge Barber's talent and contributions to the team, many refuse to forgive the running back and a plea from Umenyiora will not likely change that. The vast majority insist on a public apology from Barber, and anything short of that will only continue to result in boos.

Ron Jaworski: Eli Manning is a top-five quarterback

Getty Images As ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski breaks down his top-30 quarterbacks in the NFL, he has Eli Manning of the New York Giants ranked as his fifth best quarterback in the NFL right now, after watching him take his game to the next level last season. “You know where I saw significant improvement in Manning last season? Progression reading,” Jaworski said. There were numerous...

Amani Toomer believes Tony Romo is better then Eli Manning

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, while appearing on Sirius XM NFL Radio, former New York Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer said that Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is better than Eli Manning. Either Amani Toomer has gone insane now that he’s retired, or he’s trying to be unbiased now that he’s a part of the media. He could also want to be like ESPN’s Skip Bayless. I...

Bennett takes shot at Romo?

Former Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett is now with the Giants, and he seemed to have taken a shot at his old QB Tony Romo.

Life-long New York Giants fan James Douglas (JD in Dallas) passes away at age 35

From the moment Giants 101 was launched in 2004, James Douglas, known to all of us here as "JD in Dallas" and later "JD in LI", was a daily fixture and regular commentor. He was a good-hearted, lovable man who, for quite some time, was buried in enemy territory. His devotion to the New York Giants never wavered as he took on Dallas Cowboys fans daily. Earlier...

Martellus Bennett takes shots at Tony Romo?

After spending four unproductive (yet controversial) years with the Cowboys, Martellus Bennett signed with the Giants in March. And now the tight end appears to already be criticizing his former quarterback, Tony Romo. In an interview with Newark’s The Star-Ledger, Bennett made comments that could be interpreted as taking a dig at Romo, suggesting the Cowboys quarterback played...

Amani Toomer: Romo better than Eli

Know how to get under the skin of any New York Giants fan real fast? Tell them that Tony Romo is better than Eli Manning. That might be a common opinion coming from a Cowboys fan, but for one of the Giants' all-time great receivers to voice that opinion...that is unacceptable. But those are the exact thoughts expressed this week by former Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer...

5 best receiving duos in the NFL

Without a doubt the NFL has become a league that is all about the quarterback.   Long gone are the days when a game manager like a Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson mixed with a solid ground game and defense was enough to get a team to the Super Bowl.  These days, NFL team success is [...]

Martellus Bennett takes a jab at Tony Romo

New York Giants tight end Martellus Bennett told Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger that he really likes playing with Eli Manning because he doesn’t show favoritism when throwing the football, like most quarterbacks do. “Just his approach. I mean, he’s just looking for the open guy. It doesn’t matter who it is or what number you are,” said Bennett.  ”If you’re...

Amani Toomer: Romo is 'best quarterback in NFC East'

Amani Toomer can expect to get a lot of boos the next time he steps foot in MetLife Stadium this season— big time. Yesterday, the former New York Giants receiver  came out of nowhere and said Tony Romo, not Eli Manning, is the more elite quarterback. Toomer called Manning— his former teammate and the guy who lead him to a Super Bowl XLII championship in 2008— the second best...

Fuzzy math: Eli Manning has already made his mark; most of the NFL doesn’t know it yet

Look, being a New England Patriots fan, this is the bitter, jagged pill to swallow. However, we have to give credit where credit is due. Most of the NFL can make assumptions mainly because their team can’t get anywhere near the Super Bowl, let alone win it. Eli Manning have broken Patriots hearts on two occasions, and that’s enough for us to say: “Give it up will you?”...

Adrian Tracy Can Be a Diamond in the Rough

Adrian Tracy for WM (left), Photo by bluehenfoto, used under Creative Commons License Jim Mancari BGB Assistant Editor Adrian Tracy didn’t really have that much hype surrounding him when the Giants drafted him in the later rounds of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played defensive end at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.—a school known more for its...

Toomer: Romo is better than Eli

Hard to believe that we are only 4 weeks away from the start of training camp, and it was during last years preseason that New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning referred to himself as an elite QB.  Now, former teammate and Giant Amani Toomer is saying that Eli isn’t even the best QB in his division. He says that honor belongs to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. “Tony...

WR Amani Toomer is misguided if he thinks Romo is better than Eli

I've been a big University of Michigan fan for almost 30 years, and stand up for them during good (Schembechler, Moeller, Carr and hopefully Hoke) or bad (Rich Rodriguez) seasons, but the comment Wolverine alumni and former NY Giants WR Amani Toomer made about Dallas QB Tony Romo being better than NY Giant QB Eli manning is way off. Toomer, who is now working in media for MSG...

Amani Toomer: Tony Romo is probably a better quarterback than Eli Manning

Prior to last season, there were probably a number of people who believed that Tony Romo was a better quarterback than Eli Manning. Now, that population is nearing extinction. Manning is a two-time Super Bowl MVP and Romo has won one playoff game in his career. Last season, Eli led more fourth-quarter comebacks than anyone in the league and lit up the stat sheet in the process. Despite...

Amani Toomer Thinks Tony Romo Is A Better Quarterback Than Eli Manning

Former Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer went on the “Movin’ the Chains” show on SiriusXM NFL Radio this morning and announced to the world that he thinks Tony Romo is a better quarterback than Eli Manning. This is, to be perfectly clear, hilarious. “Tony Romo is probably, if you look at him statistically, the best quarterback in the NFC East,” Toomer said Thursday on...
