The New York Giants are like any other team when it comes to preseason rituals. Every team in sports adopts a certain amount of practical jokes for rookies to add to their locker room arsenal for the first few weeks of a given preseason. Some teams make rookies carry pink handbags, some make them go on donut runs. Either way, it's all in the spirit of fun and camaraderie.

It is something that players do to build a friendship, not just a working relationship. It is a necessity. A rite of passage for a rookie to partake in. When the Giants punter, Steve Weatherford. tweeted a video of Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul tossing Giants CB Prince Amukamara into a cold tub last week, it was wrong.

Not because Prince got wet or a fear or catching a cold or worse, an injury, but because Weatherford broke a cardinal rule: what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room. While fans soak up every behind the scenes moment they can get their eyes on in this technologically advanced world, there are still some things fans may not want to see. Things that have been part of the game for decades and will remain part of the game for years to come.  This is one such thing.

Some may consider it hazing. The general population seems to take this stand. For the most part, they would be accurate if it were a college frat party, but it's not. Both players are having fun here. Both players and those around them for that matter, accept it and understand it as a part of locker room culture. How could that be wrong, then. Some people are comparing it to a college hazing party gone awry.

Personally, I don't see that. I see it as friends having fun with friends. In a college hazing, the victim is never having a good time. They are dreading what they are about to receive but willing to receive as a rite of passage into a society they want entry into. This is a little different than a professional football player lobbing a friend, a fellow professional football player into a large tub of water.

If anyone is a true villain here, it's Weatherford for breaking that unwritten rule. I think we can all forgive him if he has another great season punting. If JPP plays like he did last year, I think Prince can forgive him too.
