Just a Great Picture
A Baltimore area newspaper created a flurry of rumors with a report that the New York Giants had lowered the asking price for defensive end Osi Umenyiora from a first round draft choice to a second rounder.
If accurate, teams were reportedly ready to “beat the door” down to obtain his services; at the front of the line would be the Patriots, Ravens, and Seahawks.
For now, it doesn’t matter who wants him or what deal they are offering Jerry Reese, because he has yanked the disgruntled pro bowler off the trading block. Reese was not content that none of the over 20 teams who had discussions for Umenyiora offered his desired asking price of a first round draft choice. This may just be a ploy to get someone to cough up that elusive top draft pick. It still seems is unlikely especially with the rookie wage scale that teams will offer a first for Umenyiora, or any veteran for that matter.
This does not mean he won’t eventually be dealt, this seems like a tactic to me, Reese knew no one was going to give him a first round draft pick and pay Umenyiora the contract he desires. If teams are really ready to “beat the door down” at a second round price I have a feeling Reese will eventually cave in.
