The New York Jets may have saved their season. For now. And may have saved their head coach his job also. For now. In coming to St. Louis and slapping the Rams around the Edward Jones Dome 27-13, the Jets have given themselves a reason to celebrate and keep the New York media off their backs. For now. Here are five things we learned from the game on Sunday:1. New York quarterback Mark Sanchez was effective, if not brilliant. In completing 15/20 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown, with no interceptions; Sanchez proved he can have a relatively error-free game at a time when the pundits in New York, and outside of New York also; are questioning him, his leadership; and ability to lead the Jets forward in this disappointing season. Sanchez played well. He played calm. He also played with a sense of urgency; which is what he and the Jets need to do the rest of the year.2. The St. Louis Rams backed up last week's impressive showing on the road in San Francisco against the Forty-Niners with a stinker of a game today. No wonder the Edward Jones Dome had so many empty seats. Maybe the Rams fans had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen to the home team on Sunday. The Rams are young, the youngest team in the NFL, and their inconsistency and youth proved fatal on Sunday in a very winnable game against the visiting Jets.3. The New York Jets may have found another solid weapon for their running game. Running back Bilal Powell rushed 11 times for 42 yards and two touchdowns; the first two touchdowns of his career.  With starting running back Shonn Greene having the best year of his young career, Powell can be the other force in the backfield alongside Greene.4. The Rams need a turnover. Not apple. Not cherry. A turnover in a game that can help turn the tide and give their offense another shot at putting points on the board. St. Louis has now gone five straight games without forcing a turnover, which ties the longest such streak/slump in the NFL since 1950. Points are at a premium for the Rams offense, and their defense needs to get some turnovers to help make life easier for Sam Bradford, Steven Jackson; and company.5. The New York Jets typically play well in streaks. They are a like a Vegas gambler. Either they are doing well at the craps table and everyone is happy, or they crap out after the first roll and lose everything by the day's end. Maybe the Jets can take this win, build on it, and follow it up with another big performance against their division rival New England Patriots on Thanksgiving.
