Darrelle Revis, a storied cornerback during his prime while with the New York Jets, was traded to the Buccaneers for a 1st and 3rd round draft pick. The Buccaneers signed Revis to a six-year contract for $16M per season with no guaranteed money.Revis' knees are a huge concern, which is a good portion of why the Jets were so eager to deal him before the Draft. And $16M per season is very inflated to pay a corner, but the Buccaneers were desperate for secondary help, which they could have obtained with the 13th pick. In turn, the Jets can use one of their top 15 picks on a replacement for Revis, if that's indeed the direction they take. The Buccaneers, giving up two draft picks just to sign Revis to an unguaranteed contract, made a horrible decision. If Revis doesn't pan out and they release him, they get nothing in return for losing those two draft picks. The big concern is Revis' rubber band knees and that the payoff wasn't worth the purchase. The Jets on the other hand, added another top 15 draft pick and are likely to use both for some much-needed offensive help.Mark Sanchez has been nothing short of a big disappointment, and with Shonn Green leaving, the offense is a priority. Also, the offensive line needs serious tweaking regardless of who the starting quarterback is next season. In the long run, the Jets banked hard off of this deal. Any team other than the Buccaneers would not have offered a first and third pick. Rather than deal with Revis and the concerns over his knees, the Jets can bring in more youth to help rebuild the team, and they wont be the losers if Revis doesn't pan out next season. All in all, this was a solid trade for the Jets, while ultimately the Buccaneers just shot themselves in the foot.
