Last week the New York Jets could not convince anyone they were actually a professional football team.  This week, a new Jets team emerged. Here are five things we learned:5. Quarterback playThere is no explaining the play of rookie quarterback Geno Smith.  Except maybe that it is rookie quarterback Geno Smith.  Last week, Smith passed for 29 yards with one interception.  He was benched at halftime for Matt Simms.  Smith had not thrown a touchdown pass since October 17.It is now week 14 and the Jets are leaving their playoff hopes in the hands of Smith.  So Smith simply passes for 219 yards with one touchdown.  He also ran for 50 yards with one rushing touchdown. We learned you may not be able to count on Smith, but you can't count him out. 4. Rushing game Chris Ivory is back, sort of.  Ivory rushed 18 times for 76 yards and one touchdown.  But for ground and pound it's an option.  This is especially true when the quarterback contributes 50 yards on five rushes. Bilal Powell still has to see his worth.  He only rushed eight times for 14 yards. We learned ground and pound is still a work in progress.  But Ivory is making it something worth working towards.3. Wide ReceiversThis is still not a comfortable option for the Jets.  The return of Jeremy Kerley is a welcome sight.  Kerley returned for 41 yards on four receptions.  He also contributed a touchdown. If Kerley's return signals more confidence for the rookie quarterback that is good.  If the return of Kerley signals a start to a viable receiving game, that is better. We learned we missed Kerley more than we knew. 2. Jets rushing defenseThere is much to be thankful, a win is a win.  However, Jets' rushing defense took a hit against the Oakland Raiders third running back option, Marcel Reece.  Reece rushed 19 times for 123 yards and one touchdown. We learned Jets can win even when the top ranked rushing defense has an off day. 1. Jets SecondaryThe Jets secondary is still not holding up its end.  They recorded one interception against the Raiders.  The stat goes to Ed Reed.  Are you watching Dee Milliner? We learned newly acquired Reed has as more interceptions with the Jets than first round draft choice Milliner.  Follow me on Twitter@ neverenoughglt
