Found April 28, 2013 on FF Locker Room:
With Dustin Keller now in Miami, the New York Jets have a big hole to fill at tight end. It was a bit of a surprise to me that they didn’t spend a draft pick on a tight end but after stealing Geno Smith in the second round, they took offensive lineman with their next three selections. Mike Shanahan has a chance to make the team just based on being with the right team at the right time. Currently the #1 TE listed for the Jets is fellow undrafted player Jeff Cumberland. Fantasy Spin: I could see a scenario where Shanahan emerges as the #1 TE option at some point this year but that’s not saying much. I also expect the Jets to sign a veteran TE at some point to help fill the void. After a pretty successful draft, the buzz surrounding the New York Jets is back. Fans of the team are already penciling in Geno Smith as the starting quarterback, and it seems likely to happen. Tim Tebow is first casualty of Geno Smith to Jets

So it begins. ESPN and other media outlets report that the New York Jets released little-used quarterback Tim Tebow this morning, leaving the team with five quarterbacks on the roster. The simultaneous roster changes that marked Geno Smith’s arrival and Tim Tebow’s exit show that John Idzik’s Jets do not value ESPN cameras, newspaper headlines and jersey sales over the notion of putting pieces in place to win.
