Through five days of practice for the New York Jets the quarterback battle has possibly began to lean in one direction. Geno Smith has been very impressive in camp so far and has outplayed Mark Sanchez. Antonio Cromartie praised Geno Smith after camp on Tuesday. He said that he was impressed by Smith’s knowledge of the game and playbook. Cromartie went on to say that Smith is doing a great job making the right decisions and not turning the ball over. Geno Smith hasn’t thrown an interception yet in camp while Mark Sanchez has been picked off twice. Geno Smith has impressed teammates and coaches so far in camp.  When Smith was asked if he sees himself as a one dimensional quarterback, he answered by saying that he sees himself as a guy that will do anything, run or pass, to win games.  Ryan said today that the wildcat will play a bigger role in the offense this season. This only helps Geno Smith’s chances to become the starter because of his athleticism, something Sanchez doesn’t posses. If Smith can continue impressing his teammates and wins over the locker room, the Jets may have no choice but to start the rookie. Other Notes: Running back Chris Ivory returned to practice for a day, then left practice early yesterday due to tightness in his hamstring once again. Hamstrings are nagging injuries, but Ivory is missing quality time with the offense. Rex Ryan told reporters the decision of who will be the starting quarterback will be made between himself and GM John Idzik. Rarely do you see GM’s have a say in who will be the starting quarterback, but it seems to be that Ryan has lost his privilege of making that decision on his own. Dee Milliner has been signed and is in camp although hasn’t participated quite that much. Milliner is still rehabbing the torn labrum he had surgery on during the pre-draft process.
