Geno Smith and the New York Jets  will take on their AFC East rivals, the New England Patriots, Thursday night in their first road game of the season. Rex Ryan looks to defeat Bill Belichick in what might be his last game in Foxborugh as the Jets head coach. There is no better time to take on Tom Brady and the New England Patriots for the New York Jets. The Patriots will be without wide receiver Danny Amendola, running back Shane Vereen and tight end Rob Gronkowski for Thursday nights game. All these injuries set up nicely for the Jets, who were very impressive on defense on Sunday. If the Jets can consistently get pressure, it might be a long night for Tom Brady. Rookie Geno Smith will play his first road game in one of the most hostile environments in football. It is never easy for any quarterback, rookie or veteran to go into Foxborough and beat Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. Geno Smith will try to take the momentum the Jets sustained in their late comeback Sunday and carry it over to Thursday, to improve New York to 2-0. Bill Belichick was quoted this week praising Geno Smith and the way he handled himself and his team on Sunday against Tampa Bay. This week will be much more difficult for Smith but the rookie quarterback has a chance to do what E.J Manuel couldn’t and defeat Tom Brady.  The key for the Jets Thursday is to control the first quarter. If the Jets can quiet the crowd and take an early lead, it will only give Smith more confidence throughout the game. For that to happen, the Jets must not turn the football over and need to protect Geno Smith. Smith was sacked five times against Tampa Bay and must have more protection if the Jets have any chance of upsetting the Patriots. The Jets Santonio Holmes said he survived the first game and feels that he can play a bigger role Thursday night. The Jets will definitely need Holmes to play more due to the concussion Jeremy Kerley suffered Sunday. Kerley will most likely not be in the lineup this week.
