Many people wondered why the New York Jets haven’t given Tim Tebow more time at quarterback recently with starter Mark Sanchez struggling. It turns out that everyone’s favorite mediocre signal-caller is actually hurt. Mike Garafolo of USA Today is reporting that Tebow is dealing with a pair of fractured ribs. After the Jets’ 28-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks three weeks ago the 25-year-old quarterback underwent X-rays, and has been listed as questionable ever since. During New York’s embarrassing 49-19 loss to the New England Patriots Thursday night, Tebow stayed on the sideline, and now we know why. He was active for the game but didn’t see any action. Jets head coach Rex Ryan said after the game that he didn’t want to use Tebow unless absolutely necessary. Ryan said the following about the situation: “As the week went on it seemed to get progressively worse. He had practiced and things but it just seemed like a couple days ago I was noticing him like, man, you could tell he was hurt.” That said, Tebow was active and third-stringer Greg McElroy was inactive, and Ryan claimed that was only the cause because Tebow had taken the backup reps all week during practice. With two fractured ribs, it is unlikely Tebow will be healthy before the end of the season. This development changes the dynamic in New York’s quarterback controversy and it’s unlikely that Tebow will take over as the Jets’ starter at any point this season. While Sanchez has struggled this season, his offensive line and receivers haven’t offered much in the way of help. He’ll likely be the team’s starter for the remainder of the season.
