PLAYERS: Mark Sanchez
TEAMS: New York Jets
The much anticipated New York Jets training camp is officially underway. All eyes will be on quarterback’s Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith as the two will battle all camp for the starting quarterback job. Rex Ryan stated yesterday that he would like to come to a decision on who the starter is sooner rather than later. The play of the New York Jets quarterback can very well determine Rex Ryan’s future with the organization. Ryan is very much on the hot seat after struggling to make the playoffs the past two seasons. Braylon Edwards wasn’t scared to voice his opinion about the quarterback battle. Edwards spoke very highly of Smith and is impressed by the rookie so far. Edwards said Smith has great motivation and that “he came here to start.” Edwards was just resigned by the Jets earlier this week to ease the absence of Santonio Holmes. The Jets hope Santonio Holmes will be able to return to the field this season. With the first day of camp in the books the Jets saw some good things from players but also received bad news. Wide receivers Stephen Hill and Clyde Gates got praised from Rex Ryan after having an impressive outing catching the football. Kellen Winslow had a nice day catching the football as well and Ryan was happy with the speed he saw on defense. Despite a good first day from some players their were some hiccups for the Jets. Cornerback Aaron Berry tore his ACL and will miss the entire season after colliding with Joseph Collins during a passing drill. Also newly acquired running back Chris Ivory did not practice due to tightness in his hamstring. Running back Mike Goodson was not in camp and Ryan said he does not know if Goodson will be with the Jets at any point in the season. The biggest news out of camp Friday involved wide receiver Santonio Holmes. Holmes said he does not know if he will play for the Jets this season, Holmes is rehabbing his season ending Lisfranc injury and has not been cleared to play yet. The Jets hope Holmes will be available week one although it seems unlikely. Holmes has never dealt with an injury and said he is taking it one day at a time

Braylon Edwards knows Mark Sanchez needs to be better to hang on to starting job in New York

Without a doubt, the biggest quarterback battle, or at least the closest watched battle, is in New York where rookie Geno Smith is trying to unseat veteran Mark Sanchez for the privilege of leading the Jets' offense on Sundays this season. Jets’ Brandon Moore, Whose Butt Caused Mark Sanchez to Fumble, Retiring From NFL

Don’t worry — this doesn’t mean a butt fumble will never happen again. It just means Mark Sanchez won’t be taken down by the same rear end that felled him last Thanksgiving. Jets guard Brandon Moore is retiring from the NFL, Adam Caplan reports. Moore played 144 games in his career, starting 137 in a row. But his most-remembered moment will not be the consistent protection...

New York Jets fan wears great t-shirt to camp

There’s an old saying that states a picture is worth a thousand words. For frustrated New York Jets fans, this one might invoke a few more than that. Last season, the Jets went 6-10, behind a passing offense that struggled mightily with Mark Sanchez at the helm and a Rex Ryan defense that was less intimidating than it had been in past years. Add in the drama that Tim Tebow brought...
