The Chicago Bears Hang Half a Hundred on the TitansThe Chicago Bears put on a show on Sunday hanging half a hundred on the Tennessee Titans including an interception return for a touchdown, a blocked punt for a touchdown and three TD passes from Jay Cutler to Brandon Marshall just to prove that the offense is finally beginning to click as well. The Bears dismantled the Titans with a final score of 51-20 with 3 turnovers in the first quarter leading to 13 points, and a lead that the Bears would not relinquish. An interception return for a touchdown by Brian Urlacher set a club record of 7 interception returns for a touchdown through their first 8 games. The Bears now sit at 7-1 at the top of the NFC North standings and control their own playoff destiny. Jay Cutler and the offense finally appears to be clicking and the Bears put together a full four quarters of relatively mistake free football. As their schedule continues to ratchet up with upcoming games against the Texans and 49ers in the next two weeks they will need to continue to excel in all three phases of the game to beat these two quality opponents. The Green Bay Packers dispatch the Arizona Cardinals at LambeauAaron Rodgers continues to put up points, even if it's not always pretty. Rodgers completed only 14 of 30 attempts on the day, but those 14 attempts went for 218 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Packers defeated the Cardinals 31-17 on Sunday. The Packers offensive line did a very solid job against the potent Cardinals defense allowing only one sack of Rodgers on the day but Rodgers continued to struggle with his accuracy, especially after Jordy Nelson was again knocked out of the game with an injury. The Packers did get s solid performance from their rushing game with James Starks running for 61 yards in 17 carries and Alex Green adding 53 yards on 11 carries. Aaron Rodgers also ran the ball several times including a 25 yard scamper that set up hid first touchdown pass to Randall Cobb. The Packers head into their bye next week, and so desperately needed time off as the injuries continue to pile up. This week they lost Jordy Nelson (ankle), Clay Matthews (hamstring) and Bryan Bulaga (hip) to injuries and they are still missing Charles Woodson, BJ Raji and others to injuries as well. The Detroit Lions find balance with a solid rushing attackThe Detroit Lions have struggled all season to find any sort of balance on offense with a rushing attack that has been beyond lackluster. This week against the Jacksonville Jaguars they certainly found that balance as the Lions rushed for 149 total yards and four touchdowns. Three of the scores came from Mikel Leshoure with Joique Bell adding the fourth late in the game as the Lions routed the Jaguars 31 – 14.The emergence of the rushing attack actually took some of the nearly constant pressure off of Calvin Johnson as Megatron caught 7 passes for 129 yards in the game. Matthew Stafford continued to spread the ball around as he connected with 7 different receivers for 285 yards, but all of the points came through the rushing game. The Lions special teams has continued to improve from their abysmal early season performances as they covered well on kick and punt teams even though they didn't get a single return yard in the game. The Lions played a solid mistake free game against a lesser opponent, but it still remains to be seen if they can do the same things consistently enough to make a run at a return to the playoffs. It may be too late for that to happen. The Minnesota Vikings have no answer for the Seattle SeahawksThe Minnesota Vikings came out of the gate determined to run the ball against the stout Seattle defense, and they did just that as Adrian Peterson busted off a 74 yards scamper in the first drive of the game, capped off with a 6 yard touchdown and all 80 yards of the first drive of the game.It was tough sledding for the Vikings from that point on as rookie QB Russel Wilson out dueled Christian Ponder and emerged with a 30-20 victory on Sunday afternoon.Christian Ponder continues to struggle completing only 11 of 22 passes for 63 yards and an interception, and even the incredible rushing performance from Adrian Peterson (17 carries for 182 yds and 2 touchdowns) wasn't enough to bale out the young Quarterback.Purple fans are already clamoring for the Vikings to make a change to backup QB Joe Webb as the Vikings watch their playoff hopes continue to fade as the season continues to roll along.
