NFL analyst suggests Pittsburgh Steelers pursue trade for big AFC wide receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of some help at wide receiver behind George Pickens, and Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network sees a perfect target.

Burks became a likely trade piece after the Titans signed Tyler Boyd in free agency last week. Boyd was the second significant pickup Tennessee added to is receiver depth depth chart this offseason, as it also signed Calvin Ridley back in March.

The Titans now have Ridley, Boyd and DeAndre Hopkins in their receiving corps, making Burks expendable.

Burks, who played his collegiate football at the University of Arkanasas, was selected by Tennessee with the 18th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He he had a disappointing rookie campaign, playing in just 11 games due to injuries and catching 33 passes for 444 yards and a touchdown.

Then, this past year, Burks was even less productive, logging just 16 catches for 221 yards in another 11 contests. He failed to reach the end zone.

At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, Burks is certainly a physical specimen, even if he doesn’t have blazing speed. However, it’s looking more and more like he will never get the chance to shine with the Titans.

Could the Steelers represent a viable landing spot for him?

Pittsburgh revamped its quarterback room this offeason, parting ways with all three of Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph and Mitchell Trubisky and bringing in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

The problem is, the Steelers traded wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers and didn’t replace him, leaving little to no depth behind Pickens.

Pittsburgh did select University of Michigan wide out Roman Wilson in the third round of the NFL Draft late last month, but the Steelers can absolutely use some more talent at the position.

Burks may be approaching bust territory, but he is still only 24 years old, and he may end up flourishing in an offense that utilizes him properly.

As disappointing as Wilson was in Denver, he is certainly an upgrade from what Tennessee had been trotting out under center in Burks’ first two seasons, so that alone may result in a bump in production from him.

Of course, this is all speculation at this moment, as there has been no indication that the Steelers are actually interesting in adding Burks.

We’ll see if Pittsburgh places a call to the Titans in the coming weeks.
