NFL Draft analyst praised the Saints' selection of Spencer Rattler
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints drafted Spencer Rattler out of South Carolina with the 150th pick in the 5th round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

On the newest episode of "The Football Room," I chose this as one of the best selections made during day three of the 2024 NFL Draft.

One of the topics during the episode had myself and James Foster share our favorite draft picks during each round of day three of the 2024 NFL Draft. And my selection for the 5th round was the Saints drafting QB Spencer Rattler with the 150th pick. Here is part of my answer from the episode (27:22 timestamp).

"Looking at the fact that Bo Nix and Micahel Penix hear their names called in the first and there being a four-round difference from when  Spencer Rattler heard his is crazy to me. I think Rattler has plenty of poetnieal if you can make sure the mental side is corrected. And he goes to New Orleans, where Derick Carr has to have a pretty short leash there. So I think there's a really strong chance that we see him play over the next two years."

He may not be a day-one starter for the Saints, but I love this low risk high-reward move by New Orleans. They've taken day three QBs in the past, but none had Rattlers talent. I personally had Rattler graded as my QB 5 in this draft class and ended up having a late 3rd round grade on the QB. Dont sleep on Rattler seeing playing time as a rookie, and I think he has a much higher chance of developing into an NFL starter than your typical day-three draft pick.
