Found April 26, 2012 on Waiting For Next Year:

In fear of potentially being jumped, the Cleveland Browns have traded up to the third-overall pick in order to acquire Alabama running back Trent Richardson.  Reported first by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, this move solidifies the Browns’ first first-round selection, allowing Tom Heckert’s scenario board to unfold knowing that the backfield has been addressed.

A three-down back, Richardson has been widely considered the best non-quarterback offensive player in the 2012 NFL Draft. He will replace the recently departed Peyton Hillis.

The details of the trade have not been released. It is believed Cleveland has given up their pick at number four, plus a fourth-, a fifth- and a seventh-round pick.

NFL Draft: Cleveland’s Tom Heckert Came to Play

Often criticized for a passive approach to team-building, the Cleveland Browns entered Thursday night’s NFL Draft with a plan in place. With the Tampa Bay...

TAMPA It's hard to find many realistic scenarios these days in which Alabama tailback Trent Richardson tumbles to the fifth pick of the three-day NFL Draft kicking off Thursday night at 8 and into the awaiting embrace of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Conventional wisdom suggests that the Cleveland Browns, selecting in the fourth position, will snatch up the highly touted Crimson...

Browns took the risks and we’ll see about the rewards

The good news is that there is nothing to talk about with regard to the Trent Richardson pick at three. The Cleveland Browns paid a price and they got a guy they absolutely wanted and needed to help kick-start a mostly dead offense from 2011. Yes, the Browns paid with some lower round picks to make it happen, but this is Heckert’s M.O. to a large extent. It is a strategy that I...
