It was the trade we all hoped would happen. The results, however, may leave Dolphins fans scratching their heads for a while. There is no doubt about the “potential of Dion Jordan and the chance to help the Miami defense improve from last season, but this is a team that is still crying for a tackle to replace Jake Long.Moving up to the third pick was a sure sign, at least in my mind, the team wanted Lane Johnson, the big tackle from Oklahoma.Curveball, swing and a miss.According to cbssportsline.com, Jordan has, “Rare athleticism for his size with loose hips and smooth footwork to move naturally in any direction. Looks like a basketball small forward in football pads with his tall, long frame and flexible joints, looking comfortable in space.”That is pretty good for a team that has to deal with the New England offense twice a year and the speed and power of the Buffalo Bills’ running game. And according to the assessment, he is still growing. Hopefully as he grows, so goes the Dolphins’ defense. Can he be the next Jason Pierre-Paul as the Giants found out when they drafted him? Who knows. If so, then this pick looks like a steal. If not, then the team can answer questions why they did not go after Johnson.Jordan looks like a power forward in a football suit. If he has those kinds of quicks, teams who face the Dolphins next season will not only have to deal with planning for Cameron Wake, but will have to also watch out for this rookie.
