NFL draft prospect Michael Jefferson required multiple surgeries after car accident

Michael Jefferson, a potential mid-round draft pick prospect from Louisiana, was involved in a multi-car accident over the weekend and required multiple surgeries, according to his agent

Jefferson was hoping to be a mid-round pick in this month's draft.

It is not yet clear or known what injuries Jefferson suffered or what surgeries were required.

He played two years at Louisiana and is coming off a strong 2022 season that saw him catch 51 passes for 810 yards and seven touchdowns.

Law Enforcement officials told TMZ that the accident was fatal for another motorist. Officials said a 55-year-old man driving a 2014 Dodge Charger collided head on with Jefferson's 2019 Chevrolet Impala. The accident is still under investigation.

Jefferson measured in at 6-foot-4, 199 pounds at the combine a month ago and showed strong athleticism with a 4.56 40-time and a 37-inch vertical jump.

That athleticism and his strong 2022 season seemingly made him a lock to be picked at some point in April, even if in a later round. Without knowing the extent of his injuries it is difficult to know how his draft stock will be impacted. It almost certainly will be.

The main concern now is his overall health and physical well being.
