It was not until 1994 that the NFL Draft was shortened to seven rounds as we see it today. Usually by that time the fans on TV and in the crowd have fallen asleep or gone home.But what makes scouting departments of NFL teams great is not hitting on the first two rounds of the Draft, but rather building a roster in the later rounds.It is widely noted the players who have slipped in the Draft or not even been selected at all. Players like Tom Brady in the sixth round and undrafted free agents like James Harrison fall through the cracks for whatever reasons.There is money to be made and championships to be won if you can build a roster from the back end of the Draft. It is a cheap and easy way to develop talent and some teams do it better than others.The seventh round is widely considered a wasteland of misfit toys.
