The NFL has provided a federal judge with what it says is evidence Commissioner Roger Goodell did not improperly pre-judge players in the bounty investigation. The evidence includes a copy of a letter the NFL Players Association sent the league on March 7 asking Goodell to delay punishment of players implicated in the bounty probe. It also includes a sworn declaration from Goodell in which he states he was prepared to hand down player discipline at the same time he announced suspensions for coaches and executives on March 21. Goodell's declaration states he held off after verbally agreeing to do so in a phone conversation with union head DeMaurice Smith. Attorneys for four suspended players have argued Goodell showed improper bias with comments he made before announcing player discipline.

Goodell: More female refs possible

Shannon Eastin could be the first of several female game officials in the league, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says. Eastin is a replacement line judge who will make her NFL debut in Thursday night's Green Bay at San Diego exhibition game. The regular officials are locked out by the league after their contract expired. Goodell says he thinks Eastin will ''do terrific...

Can the Buffalo Bills Remain in Western New York Long Term?

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell held a mild pep rally yesterday, making the case for the Buffalo Bills to remain in Buffalo long term. Despite his desires to see the Bills remain in Buffalo, economic conditions might prove to be the ultimate reality, and the team might relocate after the team’s only owner, Ralph Wilson, passes. On Wednesday, speaking at the Chautauqua Institute...

Replacement Refs Dont Know What A Touchback Is?

Now Roger Goodell, we can’t keep doing this, I know you’re holding out for a better deal but MY GOD! These refs, Roger are HORRID. As commissioner of the NFL, you have a duty to the players, fans and to preserve the dignity of the National Football League. Hiring replacement referees who can not tell the difference from a ‘touchback’ to a “down at the 4yd line’ during...

Steelers football, coming to an Olympics near you?

This went somewhat un-noticed during all the media hype of the Olympics going on currently, and of course with the NFL preseason underway but NFL Commissioner Goodell told PFT’s Mike Florio that he wants the NFL to be an olympic sport. If you read through the excerpt below you can tell that he is quite adamant about finding a way to make it happen. I’m honestly not sure how...

No ruling in Vilma vs. The NFL--For now

((ht: Roger Goodell on the left The curious case of Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma vs. Roger Goodell and the NFL will drag out just a bit longer. That's because a Louisiana Federal Court Judge, despite telling Vilma's attorney she'd like to grant his request for a temporary restraining order, didn't do it. Judge Ginger Berrigan held off...

Chuck Schumer Stages Photo Op in Front of Buffalo, Proposes G4 Loan Program Amendment

So you’ve probably heard by now that Charles Schumer stopped by the teams stomping grounds for what basically amounted to a press conference about a call he made to Roger Goodell. And I agree with many who think that Schumer’s chat today amounts somewhere near the Mike Piazza “I’m Not Gay” press conference in terms of necessity. But Schumer’s idea regarding the NFL...

Suspended New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma appeared in federal court Friday, where a judge will hear arguments on the league's motion to throw out his lawsuit that would overturn his bounty suspension, according to multiple reports. U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan declined to rule on the case Friday. She told lawyers that she wanted to rule, but had concerns whether...
