One of the most riveting and captivating elements of football, at any level, is the chance for redemption it offers.

How often does the player that loses a fumble, drops a pass, or misses a tackle get an opportunity to right his wrong later on in the game?

Think Terrell Owens in 1996 NFC Wild Card not Kyle Williams in the 2011 NFC Championship.

How crazy that both of those incidents happened in San Francisco!

The second chance is an act of forgiveness as much as it is a sign of the renewed spirit of competition.

How about it, Cleveland?  Get over it.

Art Modell died on Tuesday at age 87. For 43 of those years, he was a team owner.

Forget that, he was more than just an owner. He served as a league president for a time, negotiating the first collective bargaining agreement with the players (I bet Curt Flood wished Modell had run the MLB) as well as laying the groundwork for the super cash cow of NFL broacasting rights.

Modell's teams twice captured the NFL Championship, including the last professional championship of any kind for the city of Cleveland in 1964.

How about it, Cleveland? Get over it.

Now, this isn't directed at all Cleveland fans, some of you are pretty reasonable about this.  I'm talking to all the nostalgic history re-arrangers (there were only three, former Browns on the Ravens' Super Bowl team... and only one of those featured, significantly, in the game) and people who talk about Modell in the most unsavory of terms.

I get the anger. I'm from Maryland and, believe me, Irsay is still a curse word around here, but, after 13 years of playing our part (even after being passed over twice when expansion teams were handed out and, instead, being told to "build a museum"), we got our chance at another football team.

People still miss the Colts, but we all have poured our heart and love into the Ravens. That's part of the healing process.

How about it, Cleveland? Get over it.

Five years after "The Move", the Browns were reborn with a brand new stadium, but, thanks to an unprecedented move of relenting on Modell's part, with the colors, history, and name of the original franchise.

Yet, still, Cleveland, you continued to harass and malign Model. He stole your team! Despite the fact that a Cleveland Browns' football team is very much active.

Imagine the pressure those new Browns' players are under. It's like the guy who spends all his time badmouthing his ex to his new girlfriend.

You're cooking a cauldron and, hopefully, the new regime will be able to stop the revolving door of coaches and players.

Even though you consider the Ravens your rivals (in Baltimore, the Browns are just another team), I'm still hoping you guys can figure it all out.

Hey Cleveland, get over it. Life is too short. It's even shorter without forgiveness.
