League-wide free agency begins March 13th. The Browns have stated all along they prefer to build the team through the draft, but will take a look at the players available in free agency. Previously we looked at the receivers available. Then a glance at the linebackers. Next, we stared longingly at offensive tackles before finishing last week with quarterbacks. Today, we look at the pass rush specialists on the d-line.
Last year the Browns sought to improve their struggling defensive line through the draft, selecting DT Phil Taylor and DE Jabaal Sheard. Both players were starters from week 1 and lived up to their draft status. Combined with Ahtyba Rubin, the Browns have three-fourths of a great defensive line in place. The Browns were disappointed in DE Jayme Mitchell, and are expected to replace him. It is entirely possible that they do that through the draft, but could use free agency to fill the spot as well. There are plenty of candidates.

The Best Browns Since 1999 – Left Tackle
No big surprise here. Joe Thomas dominated the voting. The numbers above show the summary after votes for 2nd and 3rd were added in as well, but rest assured Joe got nearly every single 1st place vote before his backups were voted on.
Just in case you don’t remember, Thomas was the first Browns left tackle in the Pro Bowl since Doug Dieken in 1980. Thomas has been to...
Cleveland Browns: Most Pressing Offseason Needs
Anyone who watched the Cleveland Browns stumble to a 4-12 record in Pat Shurmur’s first season as head coach can attest to the fact that the Browns have a number of needs that they must address if they intend to seriously contend for the Playoffs in the ultra-competitive AFC North. The Browns have already addressed one of their five biggest needs by bringing in former Minnesota...
The Cleveland Browns Need A Wide Receiver & Braylon Edwards Is Available Thoughts?
One thing the Cleveland Browns could use is a wide receiver that has some play making ability. Braylon Edwards who was released by the San Fransisco 49ers could fit into that category. Braylon has played for the Browns before, he was let go and he went to the New York Jets. Braylon Edwards made some great catches while he was in New York and then Edwards ended up in San Fransisco...
The Best Browns Since 1999 – Right Tackle
Ryan Tucker has always been a fan favorite even as he struggled with drug suspensions. Something about the big, tattooed guy was just so lovable. He was a good player too when he was on the field. That’s why it isn’t surprising at a position like right tackle where the Browns have struggled so hard to fill it, that fans showed love for Ryan Tucker. Tucker scored...
The Best Browns Since 1999 – Right Guard
Shaun O’Hara just won another Super Bowl with the Giants. The Browns found a diamond in the rough as they signed O’Hara as an undrafted free agent in 2000. O’Hara thought he was going to play center for the Giants, but has held down their guard spot...

The Outlook for the Cleveland Browns
The Browns have been one of the more underachieving franchises in the past couple of decades. The Browns have won a total of four league championships (NFL). They won all four AAFC titles (including a 15–0 undefeated season in 1948) which are not recognized by the NFL, and after joining the NFL they won four league championships prior to the league’s merger with the American...
